Does anyone here have an MC demagnetiser that I might please borrow to try?
TIA, Dom

I'm going to ask some guidance here, MW, in case I've misunderstood JC. (No, not that one ...) "Remove the RCA jacks from your phono stage (probably a good idea to turn it off first)," - so, unplug my tonearm, in my case, from my SUT. Correct? "Put a dead short from plus to ground of each channel, separately, and then play a fairly dynamic LP passage for a few minutes (with the cartridge's output shorted into itself)." - so, on my tonearm RCAs, connect each ring to each tip? (Fun with ETI bullet plugs!) So the dynamic music goes up the live terminal and 'back' into the earth? "Put everything back as it was, and the sound should now be more open, less hazy, and cleaner (like the distortion level dropped lower)." - that bit is clear.

Hi, "Use the ends of the TT phono cables or the SUT output cables." So with a SUT in the system you'd want to unplug the cables from SUT to preamp and demag the SUT too.
I did all the interconnects in my system over the weekend.

I've never been brave enough to try, as I figured the consequences could be quite catastrophic 😁

Great, thanks. As it goes, the SUT was only built a few months ago but the transformers themselves are pretty old. I'll still give it a bash, though. Cheers, DD

What could go wrong ? Everything. Shortage, electromagnetic deflux of the wrong part, the sky could fall in...
