A couple of excellent music-related movies I watched last year.....
(I have to confess that I watched these on board an aeroplane, not ideal, but despite, still impressed.)
Miles Ahead, a biopic of the great trumpeter with a fine performance from Don Cheadle as Miles Davis (Cheadle also directed).
He nails the voice, the style, the detail, the milieu of the 70s. It's set in the period of his life when he was in hiatus musically & publicly.
The film is a bit free form, like his music (the soundtrack fits).. Action aplenty, fast paced, some fisticuffs, there's even a car chase.
It's more about the man than the music & jazz fans may quibble.but the soundtrack is pretty nice.
Some fans disliked this portrayal of Miles, but Cheadle's performance alone is worth the watch IMHO.
