Only about 5 minutes from my place. Not quite opposite St Kevins Arcade, a couple of shops west, but I guess a useful landmark. I passed by, & dipped in the front, looked through a few jazz & ambient LPs, left. Quite a young crowd. I didn't go beyond the entrance. So not even past the midway cashiers desk, and didn't check out the basement where maybe the live music partying was going on.
I had stuff to buy at two shops either side, 4-5pm, so easy enough to have a look. I wouldn't have known, maybe noticed, if not for your post.
Cheers! ~ RdM

I got a bit confused about the history of Flying Out (around the corner to this new store) and the new Flying Nun shop.
I gather from the recent info I've gleaned that
1. Flying Out was originally the Shop front for Flying Nun 2. Some disagreement between the owners, including about selling secondhand records 3. Flying Nun disassociated from Flying Out 4. A few years of an embargo on Flying Out selling any Flying Nun records 5. Flying Nun setting up a shop in Wellington, after the split/spat with Flying Out 6. They make up and allow Flying Out to distribute Flying Nun records 7. Flying Nun sets up shop in Auckland
Hopefully benefitting both stores to attract vinyl buyers to the upper CBD, and also to Southbound Records around the corner.
Let me know if I've got any of this wrong.

No idea if anything seems wrong, it reads to me like a great summary. You obviously know the area well enough.
Strangely I haven't visited Southbound, although an easy walk up Symonds St;- I've passed by it many times on a bus. I must check in;- I might buy some LP inner sleeves.
Thanks.

"Two brothers set up Flying Out, as a retail outlet for Flying Nun.
They had a falling out. Ben Howe denies it was over selling secondhand records.
He then set up the Flying Nun store in Wellington. And now the K Rd one."

I'm pretty uninterested in shops selling new LPs but would get excited about any selling used ones.
