I'm waiting for my copy. Her first is very good, this may be better going by the early releases - I find Horizon particularly arresting.

Nobody else had a poor experience with Flying Out? Sorry to say I gave up on them a few years back after a run of bad pressings, service and delivery times. Took 6 months to sort my last issue with them out... ??

Took 6 months to sort my last issue with them out... ?? Yes - I continue to have issues with them, but being where I am I have little choice. Still waiting for them to inform me on how to claim all the cash backs I have accumulated over the years. Apart from that tho' I am sort of happy to continue to use them given their pedigree.

I've had very few problems with Flying Out. One lp was badly manufactured (in fact the first Aldous lp). They very quickly replaced it FOC. One lp took forever to arrive (about 10 days to travel 3.5 kms) but that was NZ Post's fault. It actually went to a quite few depots, got to South Auckland before coming back to central Auckland. They did use to use a courier with their free shipping and I even got an lp delivered the same day as I ordered it. But now with NZ Post, and NZP only delivery three days a week, it now takes about 5 days to arrive. But hey, postage is free after all.

Yes, mine arrived on Friday - I feel that this is a well executed piece, quite sparse instrumentation, well mixed. The transients are worth noticing. The bonus 45 has presented some issues, playing side b the stylus skated off the disc, hit the cork mat with quite a thump. I thought I had rooted it, replaced it with a spare and the same thing happened. Turned everything off and left it for the weekend to investigate.

Embarrassed! I checked and cleaned the stylii (VN35HE) and both looked good, checked the 45 - side B is clear vinyl! Will realign tonearm to set antiskate using the bonus clear vinyl side.

Good to know. Haven't got around to playing that yet, but I did a similar thing on an etched B-side, and wondered what all the noise was!

what's this talk of clear vinyl on the 7in ?
do you perhaps mean ungrooved/blank ?
mine is black, no grooves on b-side.
record was a bit dirty but quiet.
the inner gripped the lp so tight it didn't want to come out. once i extracted it the lp was filthy and very dished.
side 1 has scratches and damage from end of track 3 ... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
back it goes ....

Will realign tonearm to set antiskate using the bonus clear vinyl side. papahemi - this technique is a bad idea dreamed up by someone who didn't understand the nature of skating forces.... Skating force is proportional to groove friction, so stylus on ungrooved, un-modulated vinyl, will not give skating force resembling a cut record. Skating forces also depend on other factors - such as groove speed (greater at outer grooves than inner grooves), music (groove modulations), stylus shape.....

Thanks for that Owen, just finished reseting the tonearm and I didn't bother with the antiskating in the end, I did reinstate the string and weight, but left it set to zero - playing Aldous now and it sounds as fine as ever. michaelw - sorry to hear you got a dud, my copy also had to be persuaded out of the inner (this seems to happen often these days) but was flat and clean. Yes I did mean ungrooved, couldn't find the right word at the time.

My inner is paper with printed credits. Mine's nice and flat but hard to see if its dirty or not being white vinyl! Its the Flying Nun version. Are yours the same (but probably black vinyl) or the 4AD release?

i didn't know there were versions ! i bought it from flying out. where did you get the white from ? the 7in is 4ad lp is flying nun.
