Went into a record store yesterday that mainly sold new releases but had a small selection of secondhand records.
But when I was taking a secondhand record out of its sleeve to inspect it for condition, I was promptly told off for doing so and was told it had been cleaned and not to take it out of its sleeve. The record had been put into one of those self adhesive outer sleeves, but had no indication of condition on it.
Maybe I should 've asked if it was Ok to inspect it before I opened it up? But its always been ok in all the other record stores I've been in.
I promptly put it back it the sleeve and walked out of the store.

Name and shame so we can avoid the store ! Have you been to this store before ? I always inspect used records, even at record fairs, I'm the slow guy holding up the line What was the record ?

Out of town small independent store that was my first visit.
Among the U2 Unforgettable Fire, Jimmy Barnes etc was a Prestige Jazz Giants Comp lp in what looked like pristine condition from the brief glimpse I got of it!

No check no buy. One man's mint is anothers Good. First thing I do is check the playing surfaces, last thing is test play on the shop's turntable for warps, dishing and snap crackle and pop. Even new lps I want to be able to check if they're not shrink wrapped. Too much crap floating around.

always check 2nd hand records, part of the ritual. Seems that the cleaning and repackaging by the store may be an active attempt to circumvent this tho'. I'd shy away. What store?
We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

Back in the 90s there was a scruffy used record store in PN that had the shinest records ever ! The owner was often behind the counter with a small bottle of 3 in 1 oil and a rag...

Yep visual check for me too, absolutely the last thing I would do is play it on the stores turntable ! When was the last time that table was set and the stylus changed or cleaned ?
