Hi Guys,
The decision has been made to trim down my vinyl collection as we are downsizing. Collection at present runs to around 10000 LPs, and im a bit of a musical polymath so theres something in there for everyone. Send me a list of any wants you have and I will see what I have. Most are original pressings, imports where I could get them, Condition expect Mint or NM, prices around the $30 per, but better for any bulk buys. Pricing is negotiable of course.
No Jazz or Classical at this stage.

No jazz...aw damn such a shame there!!
How can you possibly be a self respecting citizen without any jazz.

Wise man. I'd be keeping my Jazz and classical too above the others (except for a few indie artists)!

Not too sure on the wise, so far its looking like getting it down to 1000 is not going to be anything like achievable in the first pass at least. The issue im having is that of what to keep as I still want my record collection to be a representation of my own personality and history. At the moment I am using the simple criteria of "will I miss this if its gone" which seems as good a place to start as any other.
Any other ideas ?

No easy way to go about such a mammoth task.
Go through and pull out those 1000 you want to keep. Start with the essentials/will never sell, weeding out the ones that you will not miss, leaving you with probably an enormous number in between.
Would be a lot easier for us interested in buying if you had a list or if that's not available then how about at least pictures of the spines?

You have my encouragement CGoL (and sympathies) Use a ruthless maths approach as first pass? 10000 to 1000 = 10 to 1: review in batches of a hundred, choose yr best 10 from each batch and see where you land. I've quietly started to sift out-dated/no longer listened to vinyl. It's an emotional task discarding albums that were influences from decades ago. I'm culling to +1200 essential albums. Should be an easier task from 2.5k titles, approx.1 out of 2 to keep. [Tip: (ahem) I'm now getting digital downloads of the crucial 1/2 songs from albums, and sending those album to the dispersal pile] Pardon me for not seeking any new titles from your dispersal.

Thanks Guys,
Yes there is No easy way, but I figure its better I do it than leave the job to y offsoring after I keel over, in which case in all honesty they would just ship it off to Pennylane or somesuch who would offer them $300 for the lot if they throw in the Hifi as well.
Its actually proving to be quite carthartic sorting through them and playing stuff I had mostly forgotten about.
And I have a couple tucked away for you citroen.

I'd quite happily sell everything at a fair price so that counts out any record shops. Question, what are people using for lp mailers for TM sales?. I purchased 20 mailers from RG which are a good fit for thinner box sets, multi disc sets etc but a bit wasted on single lps. There's a lot of options overseas but freight here is a killer . At the moment I can't even get reasonable boxes from Warehouse stationary or Mitre 10, empty shelves . We don't have many sources locally.

cooksferry I've been saving a lot of my mailers from my purchases in the distance thought that someday I might sell some vinyl. Every few years I cull them into the recycling bin when they get too much. But still have about 100. Think I only use about half a dozen a year...

Surely you'd be wanting to keep your Barry's?

Always good to have a few spare copies. Or maybe another James Last does the Beatles. (actually I do have that one). And before you all leap on me regarding James Last he actually did a very good Disco album with the crusaders called Top Secret. (and yes I have that too).
