I bought one of these yesterday. Delivery expected in March. Its a Sabre Dac which uses Magsafe to connect to your iPhone. I was originally hoping that if it was wired to the iPhone, it could then broadcast Bluetooth LDAC and apt-X HD to my Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones, but it can’t do that - it is just a bluetooth receiver.
So apart from its cool form factor for anyone with a Magsafe iPhone, what this does for me is:
1 … restore a headphone jack to the iPhone so I can use my favourite Fostex T60RP planar headphones.
2 … gives hi-res output from files on the iPhone
3 … allows the iPhone to act as Roon Remote and Streamer for hi-res wired headphone use around the house.
If you want to connect the phone and Khadas Tea without them being wired together, on the iPhone you are restricted to the bluetooth quality from Apple systems, but if you have an Android device you can connect wirelessly at LDAC or apt-X HD quality. Output to headphones is single ended wired only.
I also realise I can use this off a spare iPad to create a Roon Remote / Streamer and as it has an in-built battery it may not even need the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. We will see.
Anyway, there are a few left at the start up price of 20% off (approx. $NZ250 delivered) and I thought the form-factor was very nice, the sound quality seems high, and the usability options are wider than I first thought. Happy to report back on performance when it arrives.
