Hi
Does anyone have a couple of ECL81 tubes? Needed for my phono stage...

Hi Jon, That seems a bit of a rare beast. tdsl.duncanamps.com/show.php?des=ECL81Hard to imagine anyone using it in current production. What phono stage is that? Normally so meticulous, I assume you have the number right? I had a quick flick through a box of oddballs to no avail, but could check some more.

Have you tried Geoff Edwards?

The phono stage? It's the 1963 Denon phono stage rebuild that Beeman did. I bought one. It is that stage that uses the ECL81.
Geoff Edwards? Thanks for the tip.

So I checked with a magnifying glass and a really good source of light. Hmmm... it looks more like an EZ81.
Sorry, gentle people, put this one on hold. The tube I have installed is fairly worn, so I will check again in the morning and let you know

EZ81 is a rectifier, dual diode. What makes you think it is (they are, if two) a problem?
More detail on the exact "1963 Denon phono stage"? Model number, etc?
Cheers!

Beeman did a build thread on these, look it up, he mentions a second unit using ECC88?

Beeman did a build thread on these, look it up, he mentions a second unit using ECC88? Why don't the interested parties look it up and provide a link? I just thought ECLxx looked wrong in a phono stage. Now it's maybe an EZxx which makes much more sense.

EZ81 is a rectifier, dual diode. What makes you think it is (they are, if two) a problem? More detail on the exact "1963 Denon phono stage"? Model number, etc? Cheers! Tube designations go like this:
E (I think 6.3V heater, options for 12.6V) C small signal triode L power pentode.
So ECL82 & ECL86 were used in audio amplifiers. ECL81 would have been a very early development.
I find it hard to believe any such were used in phono stages. (ECCxx denotes dual small signal triodes in the same envelope)
Much more likely EZ81 then, Z is a rectifier. Perhaps easily available, without looking.
Off the top of my head, memory, etc.

OK, that actually works (on Linux here but likely on anything else too) I'm grateful to see. Let me rephrase it:-
darklantern.proboards.com/thread/1218/I'm cooking dinner, late, no time to look up, so thanks, I'll read it later. ;-)

Jon, does it look vaguely like this?
If so, then plentifully available in new production or maybe even NOS.

Alright, I consulted with the wife (better pair of eyes) and she agreed it is an EZ81. My bad.
I'll go and get some more from the plentiful sources out there.
Thanks, everyone, for your patience and understanding.
