CD quality over bluetooth announced by Qualcomm as it introduces aptX Lossless. TechRadar - Qualcomm AptX Lossless CD Quality
- CD-quality lossless audio is finally coming to wireless headphones, as Qualcomm announces aptX Lossless, which the company says is capable of delivering 16-bit.44.1kHz audio over Bluetooth.
- While aptX Adaptive is capable of delivering hi-res audio of up to 24-bit/96kHz, this is the first time the technology with be truly lossless.
- Bad news, that it'll require new hardware, from the phone you're using to stream your music from to the headphones you listen with. Devices that support the technology aren't expected to hit the shelves until early 2022.
I think that this is a game changer, as audiophiles will finally take wireless sound seriously, albeit at CD quality for now. Hopefully we'll see some top tier wireless headphones emerging in the near future.

That's actually awesome. Having CD quality from phone to wireless headphones.

I'm looking forward to CD quality wireless noise cancelling headphones. But I'll have to get a new phone or streamer too to make use of it. ;(

This is years old. I've just been waiting for prices to come down. For transmitters and receivers, on TM, & etc. I'd like to transmit sound to my bathroom, where wires would be impractical, & etc. www.aptx.com/Maybe the so-called HD is different?

This is very recent news RdM AptX HD was only to 576 kbits. This is LOSSLESS CD quality "Qualcomm aptX Lossless features & specifications: - Supports 44.1kHz, 16-bit CD lossless audio quality
- Designed to scale up to CD lossless audio based on Bluetooth link quality
- User can select between CD lossless audio 44.1kHz and 24-bit 96kHz lossy
- Auto-detects to enable CD lossless audio when the source is lossless audio
- Mathematically bit-for-bit exact
- Bit-rate ~1 Mbps"

I stand (or sit) corrected! Must admit that I leapt in without reading the TechRadar article. I'd had the (evidently mistaken) impression that aptx HD was already lossless.
Thanks!
(Although it is a 'futureware' press/news announcement at this stage, and will require new hardware.)
I still anticipate buying a current aptx HD TX & RX(s) though - which will probably suit my modest present wants. ;-)
At the old place, high ceilings, generous roof space, I wired lounge kitchen bedroom and even bathroom at line level with separate amps - the latter just with the guts of an old Majestic SS stereogram amp and small wall speakers.
But the lounge and kitchen/dining amps had separately selectable line in/out, i.e. Record/Listen, so I could send music or radio anywhere. Or it could, and as usually used, enable it to follow one throughout the house. Yes, there was a very slight HF drop for the longest run, length of the building, rear of lounge to front of front bedroom, but acceptable, even without correction. I had lots of RG-59/U 75 ohm cable (60pF/m) to use so it was easy to do.
I should start a show (old) system thread... but in this case, new much smaller flat, I can't get cables to the bathroom. It's handy to have the luxury of sound there if you are avidly following something, and feel an urgent need ;-)
But the new - forthcoming - aptX Lossless (will they rename it?) will obviously be great for people with new quality headphones and portable devices.

Actually I seem to remember some of my acoustic solo or even duo? - music came in at under or around 576kbs as flac anyway. I wonder what their HD codec would have done with those. But I'm not looking up intense technical white papers just now! ;-) Anyway, I've learned something;-
