Haven’t used my Innuos ZENmini Mk3 for quite a while. Home alone so fired it up to listen to music while I attended to daily chores. selected Random play, - artists, first, but just kept playing same song over and over (Adele from 19 album, not my favourite singer so at first wasn’t paying too much attention, until it dawned it was the same song on repeat!) so selected Random - songs. Same result. Next selected Random - albums. Same result! Starting to get a bit tetchy by now. Use the iPeng downloaded remote on my iPad, so had a searching look at the page trying to find out what was wrong, noticed an obscure icon top left corner - an ellipse with continuous arrows circling it. Hmm, what is that for? Touched it and it greyed out, then selected Random play, songs, once again and all was well, phew. Be good if this technology came with an instruction manual!

I expect my equipment to be near telepathic! TO know when I want to randomise and when I want to hear the tracks in order.
Epic fail, always.

Random play usually isn't random.
Spotify had to change their algorithm to NOT be random, as people complained that the same songs seemed to be played, or the same song played twice in a row (which can happen when truly random).

Yes, button pressed accidentally on repeat instead of continuous can be odd until realised! ;=})
The other question, at least from a local collection ... I loaned a friend one, he hit random in his player.
Random by track, by artist, by whole album? I don't know how Spotify does it. But internal albums in a player?
Some albums should be played whole. Some lend themselves to pick and choose. Maybe 1-2 tracks only even.
I like sometimes to be selective if I can be, but of course sometimes being wide open to the new can be wonderfully revealing too.
Certainly with new I want to hear it all at first. Favourite selections might come later. Which would I want on a personal random list?
I haven't even made playlists here yet;- I just have the whole collection to scroll through, vertically, going by names and memory.
Hopefully I can improve on that! ;=})

Spotify had to change their algorithm to NOT be random, as people complained that the same songs seemed to be played, or the same song played twice in a row (which can happen when truly random). when i went to skool random number generators used specific formulae to produce their results so by definition can not be truly random,
for that to happen requires observation of unpredictable external data,

Sub, I've used the 'random' play function on my Innuos ZenMini from time to time too. No probs with the set up and operation. I've certainly been 'randomly frightened' by what's played - many WTHell moments - did I really buy this? In my book, random = lucky dip. It's a useful, if somewhat scary, feature
