i'm not a fan of martin jr (beatles 1+ was awful) but the video was rather pointless with audio silence...

We all know that The Beatles played around with the studio tapes, typically mixing them down & messing until they got what they wanted, before release. As I understand from this.... Martin jr reckons that the orig 4-track tapes are in excellent condition & he does minimal mixing to create a stereo mix with centre voice channel mainly (& drums?). Also, it appears that he has enhanced the rhythm sound, ie. stronger bass.... perhaps in deference to Ringo & Paul, and modern tastes. "The mix sounds fantastic"' Fremer says. I'm interested.....

the story goes the beatles were only in for the mono mixing, leaving the stereo mixes to the producers/engineers.
the 2009 stereo remasters were also souped up for modern tastes with a noticeable bass bump.
the 2012s were also remastered, albeit in better taste, with all-analogue workflow.
the stereos and this new set is cut from digital.
late edit;
the above referred to the 2012 mono remasters
lastly, the 2014 red and blue compilations were also analogue remastered.

just listened to the stereo remix album on cd
and it's bloody awful !!!
even more juiced up than the 2009 stereo remaster
with more than a touch of dynamic compression
and some truly bad remixing.
martin jr needs to be kept away from the beatles !

Took the occasion to listen to a NZ stereo pressing of this myself a couple of weeks back. Lets be honest here: Taken out of context this album is crap isn't it ?

not the best beatles album but not crap a battered old nz yellow parlophone on black label is my go-to copy too. don't know why people keep harping on about the old hard left/right stereo split. not perfect but it was fun !

I have a 1967 NZ Capitol issue that I bought new. I have never regarded it as a fine example of hifi reproduction but rather a collection of interesting and provocative songs.

I'm reading @guitardudes comment as being on the content of the album rather than the pressing... And I couldn't agree more. As an historical piece, from an audio engineering perspective and as a testament to the studio engineer - it's a standout album... But I'm not sure how much the Fab Four themselves had to do with any of the wizardry that really makes this a notable album...

the original sounds great.
maccas bassline on lsd is a great hi-fi test, same with the vocal bouncing around that g martin has obliterated in his rehash.

TAS reviews the 50th Anniversary Edition of Sgt Pepper: www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/50th-anniversary-edition-of-sgt-pepper/" Despite the nobility of his intentions, it’s worth noting that in the end this Anniversary Edition is still a stereo mix created without any involvement from band members. In that respect, it’s no more authentic than prior stereo releases. Yes, it sounds better; but it’s far less involving and loses much of what the Beatles hoped to express. "
