HiFi and pets can be harmonious. Or HiFi and pets can be problematic. - Some pets just don't like the sound of improvised jazz, or Metallica. - Some pets like to jump onto turntables, sit on nice warm amps, shed hair, scratch speaker cones, use speaker cloths as scratch poles etc But just now my rescue pup just decided to tear around the house in a manic frenzy. Along the way she managed to hit my Martin Logan Summits and I watched in slow motion as the speaker toppled over, crashing to the floor!Thankfully, minimal damage all round, apart from a few scratches and a near heart attack on my part! SO HOW HAS YOUR PET INTEGRATED WITH YOUR HIFI?

Oh dear, must be a good size pup to knock over a Summit?
Not a pet story but a few years ago I had a rat get in the house downstairs via a cat door that decided my Kimber Monacle speaker cable was dinner. Fortunately it was the right at the speaker end, had to send them back to get reterminated.

Some rodents like bananas I had a pal who once had a HT floor-shaker amp under Lounge floor - rats got on top of it, urinated into it, resulting in the inevitable demise of the amp. Citroen - sometimes a spot of oil & a lint-free cloth will darken up such scratches, enough to be less obvious. I'm trying to keep our 6 month old puppy completely away from the music system.

Thinking back working at the hifi shop, we sold a new Teac cassette deck to a customer and thought no more about it, a normal transaction. About 2 weeks later the cassette deck appeared in its box in my workroom for repair. Why I thought, a perfectly nice new deck in for repair so soon...what sorts of ills were Teac up to these days that a new deck would need correcting so soon? A warranty job obviously. Or so I thought. Upon opening the box I noticed a slight odour that wasn’t that ‘new hifi’ scent. I pulled it out and put it on the bench. A few streaks of sponge cleaning were on the top, but nothing obvious. I switched on...no power. I lifted the lid. It was then I noticed a rather odiferous gel near the cassette door that had dropped all down the front inside and near the power switch, which shorted the mains to the chassis and blew the fuse. It turned out it wasn’t a warranty job. The owner’s beloved pussy had taken to it like a rival cat and marked his scent all over it. I can’t remember if he ended up claiming contents insurance or not. I wasn’t going to work on it for fear of catching something.

I saw a recent post, but can't find it now, of the inside of an amp covered in cat hair. I think the amp was toast.

Cat destroyed the speaker cloth on my Akai speakers while at least one child pushed in a tweeter dome. Strangely a large and boisterous Doberman did no damage at all.

My mate enjoying some down time ... Another Labradoodle? What happened to your black one? Good memory you have . The black one is a Poodle and is still running around, all be it at a slower pace as he's nearing 13 years old now. Good guess on my puppy, he's 5 months old and loving the music

I've noticed an intermittent rattle in the speaker that the b!tch pushed over. Thinking again of re-enacting Strange Fruit But she looks so innocent...

Great view of your collection and components (or part thereof)! What's the little device with 6 miniature valves? Or is it just a placeholder for them? Cheers!

I made ours from a kit about 4 years ago. It has a satellite detector clock source so we never have to set it.

I had seen kits or various implementations around over the years, and certainly know what they are;- I hadn't seen one with a remote, and could do without the blue led bling under them, I think, but how does the "satellite detector" part work?
I mean, it's not April 1st! ;=}) (I have just the slightest feeling it's a dry joke;- are they that unreliable in simple form?) Driven by a crystal clock?
You need satellite Freeview, or some such? I'm on terrestrial Freeview here. ;=})
Can't be as bad as the 12.5" diameter Roman Numerals battery powered clock I have above my entrance door, which I love the look of, but runs fast to an enormous extent over a day. I can buy a new mechanism for it...
Cheers!

You'd hate mine then rdm! It has an LED that can do all the colors of the rainbow.
This one is even customisable

It has a GSM module on the back with an led that flashes red when it locks onto a satellite. It picks up the same satellites that car navigation does and sends the time signature digitally to the MCU. It’s surprisingly reliable, I thought it would fade over time but it hasn’t yet. Just the odd tube failure where a number will only half-light up. There are so many welded connections inside the tube and the numbers are mounted close together, so you just need to settle on tubes that are built properly and don’t short out internally. I haven’t changed the tubes in this one for 3 years now.

Actually I merely said that I could do without it;- I did admire a friend's 240V ES LED lamp that did party time rotating colours all over the place, even in time to music as I recall, on a Facetime call, but forgot to ask him about it when I visited.
That video is fairly amazing;- what human ingenuity is capable of! So one could <ahem!> have roman numerals too... ;-)
Back to pets;- not exactly hifi, but a friend and her daughter out in the country took up 'homing' feral cats, intending to send later to the SPCA. Ended up with a huge number, I heard reports of 30 down to 18 - quite mad, really, considering that they were vegetarians buying meaty cat food for them. The cats got into territorial sprays, one all over a basically brand new 22" PC monitor, rendering the image unusable for about 1.5"-2" from the bottom.
Which is where the Windows taskbar is ... I managed to talk her through on the phone to getting it to be at the top, as a temporary work-around.
