Anyone ever had experience with the Commonwealth deck..? Built one...seen them going....any good...??

Yes very good so if the price is right and the turntable complete go for it. They were made for use in Australian broadcasting.

Yes my mate has 2 in various states of repair. Very solidly built, made in Hobart. From the Radio Museum website: “ The company manufactured precision broadcast quality transcription turntables, tone arms and portable tape recorders. Founded: 1950: Closed: 1966: Production: 1950 - 1966 History: The company manufactured from the WW2 Derwent Park Munitions Factory in Hobart which had been rebuilt as part of the postwar reconstruction by the Commonwealth Government to employ ex-servicemen.”

Tub Audio used one as reference for a while it sounded good Really! They used to have this very pretty Rola Professional as well, another classic Antipodean transcription idler. 😍 They seem to have had some quite nice gear in their stable...

Ive currently got a mint 401[ex Jason P/Tony D] parked in a 100mm slate plinth from OMA with a 12'' Artemis arm... Maybe no real advantage changing.
