Been on a bit of a bender, buying 2nd hand classic music LPs last three weeks. Bought several off seller Adagio14 on TM, and found he was selling his personal collection, so bought a few more from him privately. He lived in Germany until 2007, and most of his collection was accumulated there. Vivaldi, works. 18 LP box set from Phillips. I Musici. Beethoven, 1970 Edition 6 LP box set, DGG, piano trios and quartets, featuring members of Amadeus Quartet. Beethoven, string quartets complete on 11 LPs in three box sets, RCA Red Seal USA, GuarneriQuartet. Elgar, Violin concert, Kennedy, LPO/Handley, HMV uk. Schubert, String Quartet 14, DGG, Amadeus Quartet. Schubert, Quintet Op163, YoYo Ma cello, CBS masterworks USA. Schubert, Quintet Op114, Serkin piano, CBS Germany. Dvorak, Piano quintet D703, Curzon Piano, Decca uk. Mozart, the great string quartets, box set 5 LPs, Amadeus Quartet, DGG Germany.

Nice score.
TM seller Adagio has since closed his account ?
What other goodies did he have ?
Are his records in good condition and fairly priced ?

continued adding new classical music to the collection! Visited local op shops on our trip to town yesterday, with some very tidy sets being purchased. Bach, complete Chamber works, on 6 LPs, Oryx the Excelsius Collection, ORYX 6XLC 1, England pressings. $10. Donizett, Don Pasquale, complete on 2 LPs, Eurodisc 300 382-435, German pressing. $4 Bizet, Les Pecheurs de Perles, complete on 2 LPs, EMI SLS 5113, England pressing. $4 Bellini, I Puritani, complete on 3 LPs, DECCA SET 587/3, England pressing. $4 With my other recent purchases, now have a pile of LPs for cleaning on the US RCM!

i bought 6 records from adagio14
good prices, good service but records were a lucky dip - 3 were good, 3 weren't so good.
par for course for a tm trader

So far only one dud from adagi14, record and sleeve mint and flat without blemishes, but sound quality very poor. I now believe the Privilege dgg label is abudget issue, won’t buy that label again.

I have Resonance and Galleria from Deutsche Grammophon, which I believe are their budget series.
I thought Prestige was their French branch.

I generally expect a few pops etc on a 2nd hand record, which is why I mostly put them through the ultrasonic RCM before play. I was impatient to hear one of my recent purchases from adagio14 - Schubert quintet Op163, D956, featuring YoYo Ma on cello and the Cleveland Quartet, on cbs masterworks label. Had a listen before cleaning, mostly ok, a few pops and noises here and there which spoiled things a littler. But after an US clean, played perfectly.

i've bought records off tm sellers who claim US cleaning and they were unlistenable, i'd hate to have heard them uncleaned.
much depends on the seller's grading, there are one or two sellers who are spot on but rule of thumb is to drop advertised grade by one or two points.

Yes can be a pot luck lucky dip sometimes! I had been wanting a replacement on lp of John Lee Hooker - the healer, for some time after my copy vanished when moving house 10 or so years ago. Bought a new cd, but not the same. Actually, my copy of John Lee Hooker - Mr Lucky, went missing at same time. Still haven’t found a replacement for that title. For some reason used copies of the healer have become super expensive. A seller on TM advertised a copy, mint on one side with swirly surface marks on other. Took a punt. Cost me $20 including postage, but after an US clean both sides play silently.
