Hi all,
Just signed up. In a previous life I was an occasional participant in the AudioEnz forum but lost touch by leaving NZ.
Anyway I'm back, surrounded by far too much vinyl and promising myself this will be the year of letting some of it go .. oh, wait, that was last years promise as well.
My primary listening source is vinyl ...I listen to a wide range of musical genres .... don't tell anyone but I have recently discovered a love of big band music. Play "88 Basie Street" at high volume and be awed!
I am also a covert to the marvels of Mono recordings. I bought the Beatles Mono box set and decided I should hear it propoerly. With great assistance from Simon Brown I set up a second arm on my turntable specifically for mono records. Geez .. what an eye opener!!
Anyway, look forward to participating in the forum.
For those interested my system is:
Timestep Evo turntable SME Series V arm with Dynavector XV-1 cartridge Wand 10.3 arm with Hana SL Mono cartridge
Esoteric E-02 Phono
Music First active preamp
Oppo 105 CD with JILTI tricks
ACT 100 ASL SCM speakers
Iso-Tek power conditioners

Welcome, Bruise. That’s an impressive set up you have there. Any chance of a picture of your turntable?

That Beatles mono box set really is the perfect excuse to get a dedicated mono set up. And just shut up about relinquishing vinyl - that's a sore point around here! Must admit I'm not familiar with that Timestep turntable, so had to google it. Impressive mods to a classic Technics DD. Looking forward to your future contributions.

Thanks, I'll see if i can figure out how to attach a photo in due course.
.. and talking of Mono I just acquired the first Julie London LP .. 1955 and in pristine condition. Played a couple of tracks and decided that all the hype about this recording is true. Can't wait to get it cleaned and have a proper listen.

Go to imgur.com/upload?betaClick Choose photo/video Select your photo Then hover your mouse over the top right hand corner for a drop down menu. Click on the three dots Select Get Share Links Select Copy Link on the BBCodes (Forums) And then paste this into your message. Sounds complicated, but once you've done it, its really quite easy.

Hi Michael, By dumb luck my two Julies (both from trade me) have turned up with vinyl in perfect condition although the covers are only average.
The "julie is her name" is a NZ pressing and the Vol 2 is a US pressing.
Having said that it took me about 5 years to track them down ... at this rate I'll soon have every LP I need (cough).

No the Wand arm isn't mounted on the plinth. I had a fancy idea about using the lugs designed to house the lid as a platform for the 2nd arm but Simon Brown reckoned he could line his arm up beside the body of the TT. He stuck the arm on a very solid metal base, It took a bit of fettling but it works well and I am very happy with the result. I bought the TT from the UK when I was living in China about 7 years ago. If I was doing it today I'd be going for one of the new Technics models.
I 2019/20 upgrade cash into the phono .. I had an AVID Pulsare but it could only handle one arm and had no Mono capability ... hence the Esoteric purchase. That is a REALLY good phono IMHO.

Yeah Julie London is great. Cant comment on the Beatles Mono box as I havent played any of them yet. Nice system btw. Thanks .. work in progress. My party trick withe Beatles Monos is to play "Baby you're a rich man" off Magical Mystery Tour. Play the standard Stereo version first and then play the Mono. Then pick your jaw off the floor; any doubters about the quality of Mono production are instant converts from that moment on.

Hi Bud You should have taken me up on the Avid offer It really made a big difference to Mark's system Yep, re: AVID... alas, not the first time the intersection of desire/need and $ didn't align. btw, yet to hear mgb's 'revitalised 'system in his new room. L2 has the promise of a trip to Dunners, so getting closer for that revelation. (and, Simon has my re-tricked Wand TT ready [with a new Hana ML cart. too])
