Last week I was happily soldering up my interconnects, when my soldering iron gave up in shock at the abuse I had handed it (lack of attention)! I've not got a spare so have had to order one... except they are all out-of-stock, or something.
A day later my Origin Live Illustrious Tonearm gave up the ghost too. The internal wire was so old the sheath had fallen off and of course the metal was shorting on the arm. Time to rewire - contacted Origin Live and that is underway.
It's not really a problem as I have my Sparky Streamer...
Actually I lied. I did have. Someone (it, wasn't me, honest, guvna!) bumped it and bent the SD card. Exit one streamer. SD card on order...
All is not completely lost as I have a boombox I can use. Finger's crossed it too does not fail!
Jeez, what's a fella have to do to maintain some music in the house?
Fortunately I still have my sense of humour (a little strained right now) and can see the funny side of this.

Hi Jon,
I too have had many similar issues over the years and have found the best way to keep a system running is to have a good supply of spare components. Most trouble some singular component I have had over the years are tonearm cables too: They really dont seem to like being plugged in and out, those mini din plugs are a particular source of grief I have found. Amplifiers would be my next biggest concern; Blowing fuses or valves or generally playing up. I have 3 amplifier sets now to switch between so I am assured of always having something working on hand.( 4 if I count my B&O that is currently away being repaired !). And yes I do sometimes wonder if it wouldnt all be easier if I just sold the lot and bought a motorbike ! Then I remember that I used to spend more time actually fixing my old Triumph rather than riding it.

I'm slightly happier... My Sparky's SD card arrived yesterday so I can at least stream on the big rig. I listened to this (and pre-ordered): www.musicglue.com/laura-marling/

I bought one of these, along with a bunch of tips.
Quick service... now I can finish my interconnects.
