REGA Research announced last Sept 2019, the REGA PLanar 10, its best & most costly turntable - £4499 / US$6695 with P10 PSU, RB3000 tonearm & Apheta 3 MC cartridge.
This came after the Oct 2018 release of the REGA PLanar 8, a similar 'skeletal plinth' design concept turntable (£1699 with RB880 tonearm, £2439 with Apheta 2 MC cartridge added).
REGA PLanar 10 features:
- Ultra lightweight, HPL laminate, foam-core plinth material.
- 'Stressed beam' double brace made of ceramic & phenolic - structural rigidity without unnecessary increased mass.
- RB3000 tonearm, hand-polished lowest mass & machined for ultra-tight, low tolerance, adhesive-less bearing fit & the best bearings.
- Aluminium sub-platter in brass sleeve.
- Ceramic oxide platter, fired & diamond-cut to a 'flywheel effect' design.
- EBLT rubber compound drive belts, consistent, dimensionally accurate.
- Separately housed PSU, with DSP, crystal-generated sine wave drive for the 24V motor, factory fine-tuned for 'vibration removal'.
- Custom dust cover.
" The (Apheta) 3 is a smooth, detailed operator. It's the best-sounding Rega cartridge I've heard. "
" For those listeners who prefer the richness and "romance" produced by a suspended 'table, this will be a bit "in your face," although sustain and decay were generously presented.
" ...the company's most sophisticated, refined, quiet, and subtle-sounding turntable yet. It combines the immediacy, grip, and rhythm'n'pacing excitement Regas have always produced, with the subtlety and delicacy typically found on far more costly analog front ends.... If there's a better $6695 plug'n'play turntable out there—or... I don't know what it is. "
