Not just because Ferrari may be winning again, but the post-Bernie Ecclestone era has begun with new rules - bigger tyres, wider cars, faster cornering, lower costs.... More competitive teams? More overtaking? More exciting racing?
Thanks to long time F1 enthusiast rmc001, a link to the h'lights of the first race of the 2017 season last weekend, the Australian GP in Melbourne....
Yep. Mercedes seemed to be quicker than Ferrari last year, but maybe Ferrari have improved. Motorsport mag. Dec. 2017 says Merc. had more aero efficiency while Ferrari more rake and total downforce, meaning Merc had more peak performance available but more inconsistency across circuits.
It has all been down hill in F1 since the mid 80s. I'm a huge Ferrari fan but even the glory years with Schumacher couldn't arouse much enthusiasm. Leaving behind so many of the classic tracks with their heritage to chase a money trail in Asia hasn't done anything to enhance things either...all IMO of course. I'd rather watch grainy B&W footage of Tazio Nuvolari (greatest of them all) than sit through a modern GP. Tenuous Ferrari link but this print of the great one hangs on my bedroom wall

...and thats the famous Alfa Romeo P3 that used to blat around the back roads in Marshlands when I was a lad. Saw it last at Wigram 30 odd years ago, think it got sold off overseas to a collector for some large amount of $s ?

None of the 6 chassis of this car are in existence (I think 4 were written off or crashed) and the sole example on YouTube is a conglomeration of parts from the Ferrari bin 😐 - including 1981 (126C) rear suspension 1983 (126C3) front and rear wings and later ('82) pull rod front suspension.
