As reported today also by Michael Fremer, ANALOG PLANET & THE VINYL FACTORY: " ...one of only two companies in the world supplying the global vinyl industry...Lacquer discs play a crucial role in the production of vinyl records, and are cut by mastering engineers to create master discs, which are then supplied to pressing plants to make the stampers from which records are pressed. There's still several plants doing DMM including some big players like GZ and Record Industry in Holland. DMM is capable of good results but all AAA product will slow down. Fortunately I'm not Michael Fremer and his ilk believing that digital is inherently evil. If the vinyl revival really has legs then the destroyed plant will be replaced although that will take time.

Does the Vinyl Crisis Spell Disaster or Opportunity for the Music Industry?" ... one might be asking whether all of this signals the end of the vinyl revival. I don't think so as there is too much demand and invested infrastructure out there. " " Vinyl has again become a bona fide music medium, recently outselling CDs for the first time since 1986. That's a big market and it now looks like the momentum might be slowed down significantly. " " It might make sense for a consortium of musicians and related organizations (like BMI, ASCAP and the RIAA) to get together to fund a new facility or two, one on each coast. The degenerating outlook in the USA may act as a brake on any short term progress.
