Acceptably decent-sounding Class-D (switching) amps have been emerging recently - compact, lightweight, powerful, low energy consumption, low cost.
Steve Guttenberg Audiophiliac reviews this USA-made (Brooklyn, NYC in fact), Class-D amplifier - US$2495
No, it is not as good as a PASS LABS XA25 Class-A amp (at twice the price), but...
" I'm not the biggest fan of Class-D...because they sound 'meh'...they don't get my juices flowing, (but) this one absolutely, positively does! "
