The style reminds me of the original Civic of the 1970s. The dashboard looks great! But not sure if it would create too much glare during night driving. Also the range at 200km wouldn't be enough to go from Nelson to Blenheim and back without charging. Good for big cities though!

definitely a city car. price will dictate whether it's a game changer or not. the guy in the video reckoned it would be priced anywhere between £25-40k

That's slightly more than a Ford Focus. A VW e-Golf does about 130 miles (210km) on a full charge and is about £33k. Tesla Model 3 is £39k and can do more than double the distance.

Also the range at 200km wouldn't be enough to go from Nelson to Blenheim and back without charging. Good for big cities though! No problem, NZ (& UK) have reasonably good EV charging networks now. eg. Looking at my Pugshare app, there's 'fast-charging' stations at Nelson & Blenheim & also at Havelock, midway between Blenheim & Nelson

That's alright then! There seem to be more EVs over here now, including Nissan work vans, and the local charging points are more often than not, full of cars charging! I wonder if there's an app that tells you when and where a charger is vacant, or at least tell you the time to wait for it to be ready to charge your car. If EVs take off the generation of power is going to have to be given a makeover. There is already a new nuclear power station being built in Somerset, and more wind generators popping up, especially in the Irish sea. Also solar panel arrays on farms. There is one next to where we walk the dog, and it looks ugly. Could NZ finally need a nuclear power station? I mean, would one be necessary? And the cost of replacing the battery would need to be taken into account when looking at the running costs over time. The Nissan van battery is about £5000 to replace over 80,000 miles.

With EV battery life, mileage isn't the key factor, lithium batts just degrade over time with use. So, age is the key determinant IMO / IME. With EV charging network apps like Plugshare, EVs should Check-in when charging, with anticipated charge time, so that others can see if the charger/s is in use. Also, the EV checked-in should have contact details, so that others can txt msg if required. This is good etiquette. However, in time with EV ownership increase, the 'free' charging stations will become over-used & no doubt will have to start charging $$, in order to encourage rapid, efficient usage - like the commercial ChargeNet network here in NZ ($0.25 per kWh + $0.25/minute).

Great, now if they could also do something about all these damn Toyota Prado SUV things that never go further than the supermarket carpark, that would be great too..

another dopey green led scheme !
if they were serious why not implement co2 linked road licensing like the eu ?
stick this in the same box as the cancellation of the acc risk assessment.

It moves along like postman pats van. The dashboard is horrendous. And so many distractions. It also suffers from that impotent looking front "grille" that most EVs seem to be stuck with.

garym - maybe we need to get Ross (Stevens) to design one However, the idea of air-cooling a heat-wasting, efficiency-poor, petroleum combustion transport, no longer applies

Well he has a hybrid... Yeah I get the no need of the air cooling but it must be possible to avoid the naff front ends.

EVs certainly make sense for NZ (80% renewable hydro electricity generation), vs say Australia (85% coal & gas generation).

sutherland made several battery powered linestages and phono stages, d-cells though.

Love the Merc AA, not much power to weight ratio there! And you'd never be able to back it out of the garage with all those batteries on the floor. VW iD3 looks interesting, back to rear wheel drive. But think the name is pretty forgetful. How about the VW Dualit? 😉🙄
