Shamefully mismanaged by Telecom, Tivo is finally calling it quits in NZ. The official closure date has been announced.

Senior citizens across this fair nation of ours will raise a right furore over this one... The rest of us stream our content and can't even remember how the bloody free view box works...

Nah, come to think of it, grey power are too busy working through their twilight years to worry about such and like these days...
Funny, the speed of the change in this landscape. I truly can't remember the last time I watched TV... Netflix, Lightbox, You Tube - yup. Sky or Free To Air? A couple of years maybe?

And look at how far we have come ! I remember when I only had to press one button to turn the TV on, now i'm faced with a multitude of remote controls each with a plethora of illegible buttons. That's progress for you.

You don't have a smart remote?

That's progress for you. New house builds have no buttons to push at all! Its a reality, voice activation works, and well, as long as there's power and wifi.

michaelw is a knob fetishist... I totally agree though, but I've never found that experience with a remote. The satisfaction of a well made switch or mechanical button can form part of the ritual enjoyment of setting up for a good listen... The convenience of running basic av in the bedroom from apps on my phone has a definate appeal though.
