n-t-m writes there has been confusion in the past but they are also guilty of propagating same.
yes, hi-res 96/24 and 192/24 audio was available on dvd back in the late 1990s but it was audio only.
dvd with video was limited to pcm, mpeg or compressed dolby digital/dts.
netflix has had quality dolby atmos before this announcement but it was limited to 4k streaming.
the new 640kbps max is a good move but it only brings them up to the current standard bearer for streaming quality - amazon, whose picture and sound have far exceeded the best netflix could do.
netflix can still be improved, especially in picture quality.
