Couple of things happened recently which had me looking for the proper names of some electrical connectors
Hifi speak calls the fork like terminals on speaker cables, spades! My Yamaha TT has a similar, though smaller connecter on the earth wire, which is a breeze to connect to the amp. Whereas my Linn just has very fine bare wire, which is a PITA to connect!
So I went to Jaycars and said I wanted a spade connector for the earth wire of my TT. I was offered a little bag containing a set of male and female spade connectors - like this -
Clearly the correct name for these is spade connectors. We cleared up the misunderstanding and I purchased a little bag containing two small fork connectors!
The second thing was when working on my Kef speakers and posted about it here, I struggled with how to describe the electrical connectors behind the mid/tweeter enclosure, whereas having done a google search I now know are properly called spade connectors, as per pic above. A panel soldered to wiring from the xover had male spade connectors, and the wires going to the individual speakers had female spade connectors, but soldered to the speaker terminals at the other end. I can relax now!
