Very reluctant sale, economics dictate I must sell the turntable I was going to keep forever!
Yamaha YP-D9 is a quartz locked direct drive turntable from the late 70s. Built for Yamaha by Micro Seiki to exacting standards.
it sits second from the top of the YP range, between the YP-D8 and 10. Derived from the D8, which is a fully automatic TT, the D9 was built to meet Japanese audiophile demands for a fully manual version. Apparently the D9 was only ever available in Japan, but examples have found their way off shore. This one was originally 100V, but was fettled by Bruce at Stereoscope to run on nz power supply.
Very solid, at 15kg, uses mass to counteract vibration. The arm is an engineering wonder. VTA is easily adjusted. See photo below - the thumb nut is loosened and the furled adjuster on the bottom is turned, using the graduated marks on the stem of the arm pillar as a guide. How I wish Linn Ittok ams were the same! In excellent condition, a slight mark on bottom R corner of plinth, and there is one small mark on the substantial Perspex lid. The only other issue I know, is the hydraulic lifter drops a little too quickly for me, so I gently hold it and make sure the arm is lowered gently.
i have not found a user manual for it - searches on line only bring up versions written in Japanese. However, there is a manual for the D8 on Vinyl Engine, and as the arm is virtually identical I use that for setting up guidance.
Available for sale in two versions -
1. With Yamaha headshell and Shure M75B cart that came with the TT when I bought it, and a spare new boxed Jico replacement stylus, I bought an MC cart soon after purchase, so this cart has had little use by me. $975.
2. With Jelco H25 headshell with Denon DL103R cartridge. I bought the Denon cart new and has no more than 200 hours on it. $1250
An identical TT with lesser cartridge was on TM last year for $1200. I won’t pack this, pick up in Mangonui, meet up in Northland, or I can arrange a visit to my daughter in Tauranga and drop off/meet up on the way.
