JOHN ATKINSON is interviewed by Steve Guttenberg AUDIOPHILIAC in (John's) Brooklyn home. Here, in Part 1, John is unexpectedly (for me) interesting, recounting his years as a bass guitar player, including recording at Abbey Road studios, in an early career as a band musician in the early 70s. Then, his role as 'saviour' of HI-FI NEWS magazine in the early 80s. Followed by the move to USA to join STEREOPHILE in '85, eventually assuming Editorship (from J Gordon Holt). 34 years later, he now provides only product reviews, equipment measurements & some show reports, in a much reduced role for STEREOPHILE. WARNING - John's room is a little bit messy (for those who may find this disconcerting )

Also for me Owen, I found his writing & thinking a bit too "square", I'm curious where Stereophile will go in the following years, audiophilia is such a niche now...

Steve Guttenberg AUDIOPHILIAC's part 2 interview with JOHN ATKINSON, discussing audio measurements: Steve G. asks such interesting questions as: " What measurements correlate to good sound? " " Do tube amps that measure well, start to sound like SS amps? " ' Can you measure 'transparency'? " " Do big speakers sound better (than smaller ones) ? " " Do amplifier measurements actually matter for good sound? " JA also mentions: - J Gordon Holt's tip for initial speaker placement. - Stereophile's 'dual mono pink noise' test track is very useful for indicating good speaker 'imaging'.
