Hi Owen,
Little Johnny Heathen raised this one with me last week offline and I think its a valid point.
There seems to be members popping up here with no other activity but to offer items for sale. Now I regard the forum here a bit like a HIFi family or club, where everyone knows one another and treats each other with honesty and respect, and as such would consider any member selling anything to be above reproach, however a member that joins simply to sell something ? Surely that's what Trade Me is for ?
Perhaps a separate sales area for casual members ?
Any thoughts anyone ?

In general we have no problem with members joining the forum & offering items for sale - of course audio-related items preferred Ideally these offers occur in the Buy and Sell category - rather than digress discussion threads. Such offers can sometimes generate discussions themselves - however, it would not be good form to unnecessarily criticise items or pricing. It is also not uncommon for forum members to be offered more favourable prices. As for all forum postings, interest or lack of interest will be the final judge anyway.

Commercial sellers, retailers, amateur sellers, are all welcome, as long as (i) postings occur in the appropriate categories (Buy and Sell, Trade Area, etc), (ii) postings are of interest to members & (iii) not disruptive to the tone of the Forum in general. This forum is open to anyone interested in the things that interest us here - all newcomers are welcome, experienced or inexperienced, this is not an exclusive club. Providing of course, that all members abide by Forum Rules. This forum is for learning and camaraderie, amongst friends or strangers. We ask only that, when you join here, you respect others, as you would when coming to someone's house

Well said Owen.
But also caveat emptor with regard to buying OR selling with new/unknown members. Scammers are abound everywhere, and plenty of horror stories and rip offs with buying AND selling, even via paypal.
This is a fledgling site at the moment, so less likely prone to scammers but time will tell.
Any thoughts on a minimum number of posts before being able to post in Buy and Sell, or a minimum join in period, or something similar to discourage scammers but not put off genuine traders?

I agree with Citroën on this, as a family we need to have a system in place where a minimum number of posts or a grace period is required, otherwise i can see us just becoming another classified ads forum

Also i would like to offer a service free of charge that if anyone is interested in purchasing expensive items and the location of the seller is within my area of Auckland then im more than happy to view the items before purchase for any member that may have doubts about the seller

i really like the idea of a more free "for sale" section. some are very prescriptive. but i also think that if we smell a rat then we need to check with questions whether it is all legit.

Yes, thanks guitardude, Citroen, deano1974, for raising this issue, there is provision for this type of precaution. Will look into this & let you know.

Thanks for input chaps - we agree & from here on, new members cannot post new threads in the Buy and Sell forum area, until they have participated in a minimum number of forum posts. We'd like to encourage discussion primarily.

is there a provision for providing feedback on completion of the sale? (he asks just having sold something)

Buying & selling is a private transaction, the forum provides only a convenient platform for contact.

Been on Audioenz forums for years, and a early member here, but my first post here was on the for sale section! Must make amends and join in with some posts in other sections from time to time.
