There was a fab pre-amplifier for sale on TradeMe - a Daniel Hertz M6. Audio jewelry. I think the starting bid was 5.5K .
I was tempted but was saving for speakers. It was passed in and later relisted with a starting price of circa $3K. I had a question and phoned the vendor and left a message. This time I could not help myself and put in an auto-bid. When I returned it had sold. Oh well. Later the vendor phone to answer my question as he did not know to what it related. We chatted hi-fi and I said if for whatever reason the sale fell through for him to get back to me. It did fall through and the reason why it fell through is the reason for my post. I was told the top bidder did not have the readies! He had to sell some other gear first. How annoying for the vendor. Actually I do not think there is anything wrong with that providing you have made a prior arrangement. If perchance you know, or know of, the vendor you can phone and say that you have, say, $X and can pay the balance within Y days - and see if that is ok with the vendor. Otherwise it is just inconveniencing the vendor and other purchasers.
As it happened the vendor was then in the happy position of telling the 'purchaser' that he had a back up offer. Net result is that I am now the owner of a serious piece of kit.
