Interesting article. When I bought my LS50s, the retailer wanted to know what amplifier I used, and suggested the LS50s would not perform to their best with anything less than 100W! To read a little 40W amp works well flies against that advice, but I do note there are some caveats in the review.

Nice article. Agree with the importance of 'synergy' - you know it when you hear it, that's for sure. Even better when the 'happy coincident' that Darko mentions is a thrifty one. Maybe not thrifty, but I had a 'What in the...!' coincident when I hooked my Ecofan 6A3 SE stereo amp (5W): up with my (then) Shainian Obelisks (89dB):
the going recommendation was that the Obelisks needed at least 200W of SS horsepower to be at their best. My experience was the Ecofan left nothing wanting, was as dynamic and sounded as good, and better in the mids, as my (then) Perreaux 200i. In the Darko article on the Rotel he states: "I'd wager that its transformer, handwound on-site at Rotels Zhuhai factory, plays as significant role." The comments section also referenced NAD3020 and Naim Nait 2 as a couple of amps that provided 'strong current delivery' I reflected on this, and that Murray Dick/Ecofan wound his own transformers. The 6A3 is heavy, 10kgs I'd guess, mostly transformer wieght. Am I right that robust transformers delivering strong current are critically important in many systems?

Yes everything I've read about the Kefs mentioned them needing a bit of welly, I suppose the suspicion of it is whether the dealer is trying to sell you an amp as well...
I remember not too long being interested in a certain amplifier, making the enquiry and the retailer telling me that it worked very well with his X speakers. Which I could have probably told him as they were often reviewed together in reviews. His X speakers being nothing at all like my Y speakers it wasn't really a relevant observation. Another importer/ retailer who wouldn't lend me a unit to try at home: NO SALE.
