Stumbled over a Lightspeed a few weeks ago - purchased and popped it between the Bada HD 26 and the SS McIntosh
Well impressed when compared to previous pre amps that have graced my dwelling the Ardens came alive.
(My environment sucks up mid bass - the lightspeed lets it through)
Previously the best I could get involved directly wiring the player to the power amp and using the left and right gain to sort the volume - not ideal.
In order to sort the room issues that are present here (A cheapo EQ does the job but quality drops somewhat) active monitors with inbuilt equalisation have been purchased - a tad lean but easily remedied as their correction curves can be altered.
One pair of monitors is run as digital speakers - feed in a digital signal from a source and music comes out - DAC,Room correction, Pre and amps are all built into the monitors. In room they are flat to around 25hz - no sub required for movies
Happy to admit setting these up taught me a heap - for example my initial stands had the monitors close to midway between ceiling and floor - this created a bass hole around the 80 - 100hz region - lowering the monitors got rid of most of the bass hole.
For another set of similar monitors I need a preamp - impressed with the LDR technology in the lightspeed I have asked Chris D about a balanced pre with remote - any comments?
