Yep - I have a pair of Mission 770 Freedom V's and would love to find a decent pair of the bigger Mission 780 Argonaut Mark II (circa 1986) to go with my pile of early Mission gear. They look like the pic. -Paul

I think my pal still has his 770 Freedoms - Mission classic signature sound. Am I mistaken in thinking that the original 780 Argonauts had these classic Mission-style stands? (Whereas the 'mk IIs' were floorstanders?)

yes - looking for the floorstanders
"Design The Mark II Argonaut is the most highly developed version. Based extensively on the successful Mk V Mission Freedom Loudspeaker the design aim was to further improve low frequency bandwidth and overall sensitivity [1].. This was achieved by raising the cabinet volume, converting it to a sealed enclosure and fitting a second 215mm homopolymer woofer. This second drive unit merely augmented the bass, leaving the remaining woofer/tweeter combination to operate as per the 770 Freedom (with the crossover maintained at 1.9kHz). Thus, "the neutral and musical character and fine imaging of the Freedoms [is retained] but with substantially added zest and power" [2].. The cabinet is constructed from sandwiched non-resonant particle board with a time-aligned MDF baffle (as per the 770 Freedom). The drive unit compliment is also as per the Mission Freedom Loudspeaker. With an exceptionally high sensitivity of 95dB 1w @ 1m, and very high power handing (nominal 200w but as per the Freedoms considerably more in practice) they were capable of high sound levels. Sound At £700 in 1987 these were expensive and comparatively rare loudspeakers. Under review by HiFi Choice Magazine they gained a 'Recommended' rating and the verdict: "Perhaps not the most subtle or sweet these were recommended for their excitement, drama, power handling and...good looks".
