Just thought I'd introduce myself.... nice to see a new NZ forum pop up, shows there's still a healthy interest in this thing. Been into messing with stereos for 25 years or so and have been through a few iterations. This current one is so nice and is getting close to breaking a hobby... and frankly I can't afford to go much further in the direction I'm going without a lotto win. Still here it is. I guess the bit I haven't quite embraced yet is digital, so I guess that's something to explore... maybe when my eyesight fails to line cartridges accurately anymore. Latest line up is Garrard 301 homemade plinth Thomas Schick 12 inch arm with graphite headshell, Art of tone headshell wire EMT TSD15n and Denon 103 carts Auditorium 23 SUT Shindo Aurieges MM pre Shindo Montille CV391 power Devore O93 Speakers REL Strata 3 Sub Shindo interconnects Auditorium 23 speaker cables

Thanks...Digital would be so simple though eh. The sub is on, but barely. The room is very large and has 4m high ceilings, so it does seem to suck up lots of bass energy. So a judicious amount below 30hz blends nicely with the Devores. Saying that it works just fine without

hi and welcome to the forum. some lovely gear there! that 301 looks excellent, especially in that plinth.i thought about the Schick for my 301 but had an option for a 12" Wand and am pleased with that. did you ever have some LV's to match those shindo's?
and digital is an "interesting" journey. one that soaks up a lot of time and money to do well. don't ask me how i know.

What a beautiful system. Classic synergy too. Did you spend a bit of time in Onehunga to arrive at that combo? As an aside rocl have you posted any pics?

Never had LV's with Shindo. Not a good match impedence wise. Shindo needs 8ohms and above, which is why I sold the LV's in the first place.

I'm a relatively new member myself, but if its appropriate to say so, welcome. Looks like a very nice system indeed. I can't say I have heard many of the component you have but by reputation this must be pretty awesome. Steve

What style of plinth did you end up making for your 301? A-la anyone in particular? I need to go down that road soon but I imagine I won't be making it myself, sadly. D

Re. 301s, I would expect that Shindo's 301 plinth would be a good starting point for a good sonic result. Unfortunately, not a lot of information out there - aside from Shindo 301 owners themselves.

D I got inspired by Martin Brenner at Vinylista. I was going to buy one from him, but he got seriously ill for 12 months or so. I ended up having a crack myself. Managed to cobble something pretty similar to his design. Still messing around with it. Very much work in progress.

Well Martin's plinths are beautiful but well out of my league! Looks like you did a nice job, though.

Was that the one I saw at Turned on Audio recently? Hi, yes I did call in to ask Neil for his guidance in setting up the Aura. It was only there for a couple of hours one Saturday morning and I can't recall many people coming through the shop. If it was my Aura you saw, we would have spoken? Neil did take a short video and he subsequently posted it to the Turned on Audio Facebook page.

For anyone wanting a plinth for a Garrard, i'd suggest contacting forum member reduced tolerance here in Nelson. He is a joiner by trade and has made himself a bamboo plinth for his 301. Looks and sounds the part....
