I'm also embarrassed to say after swapping drivers over I literally stuck my ear up to each driver and now realise that the faulty speaker is producing ZERO sound. My brain was interpreting low muffled sound from it, but it was actually drawing tops from the tweeter just underneath it and some low mids from one of the three woofer drivers! So that means that the mid driver in the crook speaker is getting no signal, right? Any ideas for what I can check next? How did I get in to look at or test the crossover? Can I test it at the cable posts? Good work so far! Zero sound - sometimes it's easier to find the reason for something dead than only partially working I think that the way to access the crossover is, unfortunately, to lift out the bott woofer. (needless to say, exercise care, they look like v nice lspkrs.) Don't force the binding posts, they'll have lock-nuts on the inside + cables connected.

Thanks for all the guidance on this journey 😃 you've saved me not only dosh, but also days of waiting for Audiomark to receive a package containing a perfectly good driver... and I would have been no closer to figuring out the issue! 😬
When I pull of the bottom driver is there any meter testing I can do on the crossover, or am I just looking for a disconnected wire or something obvious like that?

Pulled the driver off...sadly there's no obvious disconnected wire or burnt looking connection. What's next then? Drive to Akl with the speaker I suppose? If there's something I can measure with the meter let me know....

Yes, nothing obvious there, an input cable + 2 outputs. The chokes are low-pass filters for woofers. All connections look to be soldered (& intact?). It suggests that the midrange driver & tweeter possibly too) has its own xover network.... Do you feel up to taking out the midr driver to look for it inside (a separated mid-chamber probably)? (Be sure to carefully reseal the drivers when re-installing - there may be a sealing gasket against the cabinet).

Oh, a separate crossover! Didn't think of that ...yes I'll look for that. Re: gasket...there was a very think light foam gasket glued to the underside of the mid drivers...i did squash this a bit trying to get it back in on my first attempt, so hopefully it still does it's job ok with all the screws holding it down 🤤 I'm convince there's a wire disconnected somewhere...so will check for another crossover and fingers crossed I find the source of it! Pulled off the middle woofer on my lunch break- the only thing that looks out of whack is the long white block 20W2R4J at the edge in the photo below...its sitting off the circuit board a bit, but it doesn't wiggle at all, very solidly in place, just sitting up a bit. Sadly no obvious loose wire as hoped. Looks like the trip to Audiomark is still happening this weekend- here's hoping he can fix it on the day so I can bring her back home again with me and not have to make two trips up there!

OK, I think we're getting warm now.... Notice the clear liquid goo spilled on the board on the RHS? Notice also the white rectangular (ceramic wirewound) resistor has a black stain on it? And... the bott RHS black electrolytic capacitor can is discoloured on top? Possibly.... this capacitor has ruptured (due to heat, over-voltage, or both) & spilled out electrolyte. Take a close look at it. Try not to touch the liquid, not likely as toxic as traditional caps, but just in case. See if indeed it looks like it has spilt stuff out of the top or bott. Note its value - eg. 10uF 35V (or such) & branding. You may need a soldering iron for the next step

OMG...so embarrased i hadn't seen that fitst time around! Check out these better shots I just took... This soldering work...i have a friend who is very accomplished with a soldering iron (navy trained engineer)... or should I just give Audiomark a heads up on the required parts and take it up to him on Sunday? He said if I can get it to Akl around 9am he might be able to fix it for me to take home later that day...would be nice to not lose a day driving it up there, but also don't want to f$#k my speaker 😁 The burnt out white block is: 10WR75J The leaking black cap cylinder thing has this written on its side: Y.C 66.5 uf 100v

Hmmmm.... do you think that the fluid definitely came out of the electrolytic capacitor can (its top or bott will be ruptured)? It appears so, from here. The plastic wrapping also appears heat damaged. What appears to have happened is - the white resistor (75 ohm 10 watt) can get hot & has burnt the fluid & also maybe the cable insulation (bot blackened) - the cable should later be moved so that it does not touch the R upon reassembly. These components (capacitor, Resistor if necess) can easily be replaced - but someone check for any fault/cause (which may be elsewhere eg within the previous xover board). So, best to take entire lspkr to Audiomark I'd advise. Depending on your vehicle, you might consider taking both lspkrs - which may be of help to Mark. Possibly, Mark may suggest renewing components in both cabinets, if there is any doubt as to their quality or specs of any items.

Thanks, great advice. Yeah I was planning on taking both speakers up to Mark...he asked if the capacitors in the other speaker were bulging at all, so will check that later today so he can ensure he has all the required replacement parts when I rock up on Sunday.
Thanks again for your guidance on finding the issue. I'm trying to stay positive that it can be fully repaired without too much cost!

You've done most of the investigative donkey work, so that should save time/cost. If you have time, take a look behind the top woofer - possibly another small xover up there somewhere.

Oh OK...will do. Thanks.

And/or is the tweeter connected to the damaged xover? Or, does this xover supply the top woofer? If so, the tweeter cavity is the one you should open to seek any 3rd xover bd.

I think that crossover links to the tweeter and mid driver...i didn't end up opening up the top woofer to look for a third crossover - spoke to Mark and am taking both speakers up tomorrow...very hopeful he can sort it all on the day!

Drive up to Audiomark today, but after replacing the burnt our components the mid driver still wasn't working. So, he suggested I head home as it could take quite a while to source the issue....he'll work on it this week and I'll pick them up next weekend. A bit gutting.. .I hope they are worth the wait!

Tron. I'm not gonna lie, it was hard work...i had food poisoning complete with full body aches like a bad flu... but I was so keen to get it sorted I decided I could muster a mind over matter and muscle through. So yeah, super gutting I didn't come home with them 😷🤒
