Let it wander Owen, makes for a more interesting read.

(Sorry cooks, we may need to open a new thread for this....) Citroen - how much is shipping one of these from Europe? EUR90 for single arm version, EUR160 for double arm (provision for a 9 inch and a 12 inch arm) I would preferably pay a little extra for a ready made one, than deal with the hassle of organizing it myself.

But like your Sp10, it may be another decade before I actually do anything with it!

So EUR200-300 shipped? It appears that the Lenco CAD files are out in public domain, so many plinth makers have done them. (I am working on the SP10 plinth, which will involve CNC cutting work, so we'll see where that leads us....)

Graham's set to restore another classic

I note the SME type arm-plate, mounted parallel front-to-rear, not angled toward record spindle, as most SME cut-outs. Graham - that looks not dissimilar in looks to the TD145 MkII that I once had.

Yep, I couldn't resist another Thorens crying out for a restoration !!!!!! I am considering fitting a Sumiko Premier FT3 arm that I have gathering dust, but if anyone has a spare SME 3009 they are willing to part with let me know. Cheers

.... but if anyone has a spare SME 3009 they are willing to part with let me know. Cheers Put a modern arm on it! That Thorens would sound so much better. Never understand why people want to put old arms on good decks!!!

the sumiko is much more versatile than the ancient sme.

Except maybe when using a Denon DL103 cartr - I hear say that the Denon sings on a wobbly old knife edge bearing SME.

Except maybe when using a Denon DL103 cartr - I hear say that the Denon sings on a wobbly old knife edge bearing SME. Really ? I can't imagine why. The SME 3009 series were designed in an era when high compliance cartridges were the 'fashion'. The 'wobbly' knife edge bearings and flimsy swiss-cheese headshell can't cope with low compliance cartridges but perform brilliantly with suitable cartridges such as some Ortofons and Shures with compliance of at least 25cu. It's all about synergy to ensure components are compatable and can work together. Cheers Graham

However I have not spent enough time playing with a DL103 to offer much personal experience.

That link makes much of the 103 (and not the 103r) and whilst I can understand and even agree with the post, I do believe that a modded 103 deserves a better arm...
By modded? Paratrace Stylus and Ruby Cantilever from Expert Stylus and placed in an Alu shell.
Totally thrashes a lot of carts that are way more expensive.

Anyway, I still like Graham's Restorations, so it will be really nice to see it restored with whatever arm and cartridge he selects!
I wish you luck and do give us progress reports.
