Thanks for the link to the great long read, which I'm still only part-way through. I have flacs of Bryter Later and Five Leaves Left, both transcriptions of Universal Japan 200g LPs.
TT: Bergmann Audio "Magne" (with air-bearing platter) Tonearm: Bergmann Audio "Magne" (tangential/linear air-bearing tonearm) Cartridge: Ortofon MC A 90 Phono Amp: Nagra BPS (100 Ohm load)
Probably illicit, but I'm glad someone took the time and effort to upload them. Recorded 24/96 but resampled / dithered to 16/44.1 CD quality.
I must revisit them too.

I had a credit at our local bookshop Muirs and did my best to wipe it off. The Velvet Underground looks to be quite engaging with a lot of contributions from those who were around the scene.

I forgot this one - music related as it set amonst the dub scene and sound system culture of the 70s and 80s.

Not that I'm reading it right now, although looking at a few pages after I took it out of a bookshelf just now to take a pic, it's still interesting.
An old withdrawn library copy, saved along with others at the time.
1969, Fourth Printing 1970
It's a fun read, anyway, considering the era.

Finished the Nick Drake biog. Really digs deep into his life and the final third covers his last couple of years after his last record,Pink Moon. His father kept a journal day to day plus lots of stories from multiple friends and it's not an uplifting read. Doesn't go into forensic detail on his music. Having said that it's a well written and researched book and probably the last word on ND.
Moved onto Don't Tell Anybody the Secrets I Told You, the Lucinda Williams autobiography. About a third in and another artist with a troubled background but interesting to read how many of her early songs tie into real events in her life. Always felt the song Pineola was a record of a real world event and correct for once

Just arrived from Amazon Australia. My Magpie Eyes are Hungry for the Prize, the Creation Records Story by David Cavanagh. This is a new updated soft cover edition of the highly praised(and expensive )original with 730 pages to wade through. Not familiar with the label or the bands so nice to fill a gap.

Finally finished. Interesting but also quite depressing as it charted his decline into the alcoholism that took his life at 39. He had a wife, family and friends who did their best to help him but chose to bypass their efforts. The book does open up a window onto his beliefs and actions that informed his lyrics. If you're a fan, recommended.

Just finished Anymore for Anymore, the Ronnie Lane story. Interesting read. I had some familiarity with his part in the Small Faces and the odd bits from the 70s music press but this book dug deeper into his time in the Faces and subsequent solo career including his I'll fated travelling circus idea. The last 21 years of his life was spent fighting the MS that eventually claimed him. Well written biog by a couple who obviously cared about the man and his music but a story that isn't afraid to deal with the warts.

Oooo, I'm a big Ronnie Lane fan and well remember, after years of searching, the day my Anymore LP arrived from a seller in the UK, via an Oxfam shop, according to the price ticket.
I'll track this down, for sure.

Picked up yesterday from the excellent Hard to Find in Dunedin. Chinaberry Sidewalks from Rodney Crowell. I'm an admirer of his releases from The Houston Kid (2001) through to Sex and gasoline in 2008. A move away from his earlier chart topping country music.
The book covers his early life in Southern Texas and has garnered a lot of positive reviews so looking forward to a dive into it.

Another two new arrivals "A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs vol 1: From Savoy Stompers to Clock Rockers" by Andrew Hickey.
"A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs Volume 2: From the Million Dollar Quartet to the Fab Four" by Andrew Hickey.
I believe these are basically transcripts of the he excellent podcast the author has put online. The books appear to be self published so happy to put a bit of coin to the author. While there's a lot of free material available with each podcast I dislike reading in a digital format.

Really enjoying this by Bruce Russell and Luke Wood via Ilam Press. Playing the featured albums as I read the articles is a plus, as is stumbling upon never before heard stuff e.g. Stud Cole (check him out - sound like he may be Alan Vega's dad).
