Nice. Think we're heading in that area today.

some pics of a recent trip around part of the Southern Scenic route through the Chaslands to the little township of Owaka and a walk on the beach at Surat Bay. The roads are made for a MX5 and largely tourist free at this time of the year. Part of the drive goes though coastal rain forest that isn't too dissimilar to the West Coast. The complete route from Dunedin via the Chaslands, Invercargill, Riverton, Tuatapere and up through Blackmount to Manapouri/Te Anau is well worth the effort. Fortunate to get close to nine seal lions and watch a couple of males squabbling over who gets the ladies. The hilltop view is of Tautuku beach. The beaches long this part of the coast face the Southern Pacific and have a fine golden sand , mainly flat and debris free unlike my usual haunt at Oreti Beach that can change quite dramatically day on day.

Ok, the same thread ... Two mainlanders interior views... from a magazine I stumbled across last year. 1964.co.nz/oamaru-music-writer/1964.co.nz/valve-amplifier/_ I only went to the SI on a week long work trip in the late '80s, a road trip to Christchurch and a return flight to Auckland. So I'm still interested in others explorations. At least I climbed to the crater of Mt Ruapehu in the mid seventies... it was great fun sliding back down again. So you guys, chaps and chapesses, might enjoy these old articles from that magazine. Plus others. I was actually searching for something else mountaineering related, but oh well. Cheers anyway!

Thanks. Second link has this Wand. Cooksferry and I had the pleasure of listening to Harry's Nixie NX-2 amp in our systems, some time ago.
It's an impressive amp indeed. (Our thoughts are in the testimonials section. www.nixie.co.nz/ ) Harry's a terrific tube enthusiast and produces stunning equipment (way down south in Luggate!!!)

Escaped to Alexandra yesterday to find some sunshine and enjoy some made for MX5 roads. Some views of the beautiful Clutha river at Alex with the autumn colours starting to show through. Had a walk along part of the path that heads down stream towards the Roxburgh dam. A photo doesn't convey just how tall some of the Polar trees are. I should remember to take a camera on these outings rather than relying on a cheap phone to take a decent shot. The bottom pic is looking upstream towards Clyde and the Clutha Dam/Lake Dunstan.

Wow, I'll have to forward those to cat-loving friends. In Grey Lynn, actual graffiti I caught a few years ago: I wonder if it's still there.

On the topic of street art Dunedin has some interesting pieces and there's a city map showing where to find everything. As an adjunct to my earlier post re the Strang coffee building there's a discovery for me about a house a couple of hundred metres from our home. This is a lovely wood villa built by the Strang family around 1906. The house is still in pristine condition and been owned by the current owners for around fifty years. I pass by nearly every day and wife and I often pause to admire. Most of the surviving large houses here from around that era tend to be brick construction rather than timber. A couple of good photos in the link. www.heritage.org.nz/list-details/2515/Strang%20House
