Pulling some old stuff off the shelf, as you do when some new equipment/changes happen. Van Morrison, Donegan, Barber - Live in Belfast "The Skiffle Sessions", 1998 Exile label. The boys are enjoying themselves and the cd puts that across so well. html picture upload

Jeff Beck- Truth, the one and only album by Beck that I've ever owned. Enjoyed this one since release.

Pulled this off the shelf to try with my new set up - perfect, great "live" album with audience involved but not overwhelming the mix - 2 LP set, Lion Records, 2009

Excellent. A Van Morrison live album I've always enjoyed, is Live at the Grand Opera House Belfast. Have that one, too, but on CD - haven't played it for a while, must dust it off.

Another oldie pulled off the shelf, not played in a while. 1975 issue on World Record label. Cover says "quadraphonic" but disc label says "stereo", whatever - sounds might fine, with a lovely silent surface. free ssl image hosting

And the change in pace doesn't get much more jarring than this... But an equally fantastic album. Slint: Spiderland

@johnnyheathen , Two fab lps there. But surprised Melanie's to your liking, you being a heathen and all. I just had to give Spiderland a spin, thanks to your timely prompt. My copy says it came with a DVD - god knows where that is, and I don't ever remember watching it... Its been a while since I last listened to this, and I don't know why as it really is a great album.

Had to pull this off the shelf for a listen, haven't played it for about 5 years - Belafonte, Live at Carnegie Hall, 1959, RCA Victor LOC-6006. Yes, another op shop find, but about 10 years ago now, when good secondhand albums were easier to find. This double album set is a USA pressing and sounds so much better than a NZ pressing I also have. Apparently the album is held in high regard in some circles for its audiophile qualities- I concur, it is magnificent!

loc-6006 is the mono, have you heard the lso-6006 stereo ? Interesting, hadn't thought to google for info about this album, but I see the original issue, and subsequent (presumably stereo) releases have "Living Stereo" bannered across the top of the cover. Discogs only lists one mono issue with the LOC #s, but says it was pressed in Germany, and in the photos accompanying the listing, the label clearly has German words around the edge of the label. The album I have is all in English and clearly says made in USA - see pic. I guess Discogs does not list every iteration, as my NZ pressing has different numbers again! My NZ copy must also be in mono, as the Living Stereo banner is missing. Oh well. Now I have another album on my wants list, because clearly I haven't heard the performance in stereo!

I've grown to like J & Mary Chain in my old age I like their combo of melodious vocals over grungy/trippy backing.

As goods as Psychocandy is, when Darklands came out it certainly topped it for me. Sort of lost interest after that for a few decades, only renewing my interest a few years ago via their vinyl boxset. Currently streaming Damage and Joy until the vinyl arrives

As goods as Psychocandy is, when Darklands came out it certainly topped it for me. Darklands is great. I pulled it out to play also but got stuck listening to A Place To Bury Strangers...(watch the vid I posted in another thread if you're not yet a convert) ...And then had all the usual mothers day obligations to fulfill which curtailed my listening joy... I'm an orphan so have more 'mothers' than most...

Don't usually go through the stacks of CDs on my op shop visits, but this one was on top of a pile, and its art work caught my eye - Monkey Records Presents - Monkey Magic vol.11. No dates on the cover, but reading Monkey Records website seems to indicate was issued 2004. Hadn't heard of the record company before - clearly its albums are only available at specialist stores on line. Seems to be a promo featuring young nz artists, and I guess you would call the music "ambient", Nevertheless, all tracks are well recorded and most are very good indeed.- Track 12, the dance of death, by the Benka Boradovsky Bordello Band, hits the ground running and is a great tune to groove to. multi hosting

I have been going through my stack of cassettes to ensure that they are all exercised and stumbled upon this gem - must have been taken from the sound desk - it is a very good recording of a very good performance.

Two of my favourite artists - playing together. And an album that has become a 'go to'
"I see music as a lifetime affair." [Rory Gallagher]
"Free - I miss that band, but when I look back, we were very young" [Paul Rodgers]
