KEATON HENSON British folk rock musician, and poet. His lyrics and sentiment explore anxiety, grief, death and other uplifting themes! "Monument" dropped 23 October, so still waiting for the vinyl release to arrive.

Toyed with the idea of replacing the tonearm on my Lab80, but I like the look of it too much.

JOACHIM COODER - Over That Road I'm Bound : The Songs Of Uncle Dave Macon Reworkings of banjo playing country Uncle Dave Macon. Despite the press blurbs about this being modernised with African instruments and multi-collaborations, its heart is very much firmly rooted in a traditional country vibe. Even though I don't think he took it far enough into the alt/modern aesthetic, I still enjoyed this effort. Just wish he'd taken it one notch further away from the trad hokey country.

Buffalo Springfield, Again. Rhino summer of 69 stereo reissue. Picked this up at my local TW, third lp purchase for the year. Tried several times to get into BS without much success, generally preferring The Doors and Love of the LA bands from that era. I do have the Neil Young curated 2001 4 cd box set and having had a good listen over the last few nights decided that Again was worth a punt on vinyl. I do find some parts of BS a little too much sunshine pop for my tastes and having to accommodate multiple singers and writers looses some focus. This reissue in nicely done with correct period labels, tip on jacket, poly lined paper inner and flat clean vinyl. Not one hundred percent certain but this is probably the same cut as the recent Springfield box set that won praise from Michael Fremer.

Some mono reissues this afternoon, both records I've had in various forms for over fifty years.
Jimi Hendrix, Are You Experienced. This is the American version with the early hits. I grew up with the UK and prefer it. Sadly it appears that the mono master has vanished and whatever copy is now used is a bit muddy on some tracks.
Pink Floyd, Piper at the Gates of Dawn. RSD version from a couple of years ago and stomps all over the Hendrix for sound quality. I am a bit biased here as I'd take Piper over AYE any day.

LinnBoy, Shane you need to get this. I wasn't sure we would see another vocal album from Keaton. His father's passing has resulted in an extremely heartfelt and emotional record that has struck a very personal note with me.

Escape to the music room and some lps.
Johnny Winter, Johnny Winter . All analogue reissue from Speakers Corner/Columbia. This one got a lot of tt time back in the day. Sounds a bit better on my 2020 system than my 1969 one.
Chicago The Blues Today. Three lp reissue in a nice box . Reissue by Pure Pleasure. Pretty sure they were only available as single lps originally. Can't remember now if I had them all. Nice set but wish it was mono rather than the early stereo with rather too much left right separation and a bit of a hollow in the centre. Great music from some of Chicago's lesser lights.

Re Chicago/The Blues/Today. I have that same set, its a cracker and the book is excellent. I only ever remember seeing the LPs singly originally, and cant recall whether they were mono or stereo. I havent played my set for a while but dont remember being particularly offended by ping pong stereo. Maybe you need an amp with a mono switch ? ( Which I found made a huge difference to the Rolling Stones Blue and Lonesome LP by the way...)

( Which I found made a huge difference to the Rolling Stones Blue and Lonesome LP by the way...) I do have a separate mono switch unit in the chain and a mono cart on the Project arm. I'll give it a try at some stage. The stereo image reminded me of the stereo Fresh Cream lp which has always sounded a bit disconnected to me. Much prefer the mono.

Jefferson Airplane- Surrealistic Pillow. Sundazed mono reissue, a little anemic IMO with both the AT mono cart or the Hana ML in mono. Surrealistic Pillow. Mobile Fidelity 2x45 stereo.Much better with some bit bite .
Cowboy Junkies. Whites Off The Earth, Mobile Fidelity. Thankfully this one is a single lp . I prefer this one to the much lauded Trinity Sessions, more blues orientated. Quite a lot of bottom end on the track below, enough from my small speakers to rattle the lid on the Project record vac. Not quite Robert Johnson or Clapton.

Of Cowboy Junkies, I have on original RCA vinyl LP,
Whites Off Earth Now (1990) the caution horses (1990) black eyed man (1992)
ON CD, The Trinity Sessions, and a great 4 track (EP) CD, Cowboy Junkies LIVE (at Berkely Community Theatre) (1992), favourite tracks (3) Hot Burrito No. 1 & (4) Sweet Jane
just old purchases from decades ago. Very well recorded deep bass on the live EP.
Perhaps a more mature live version of Sweet Jane here, a different concert:
