The real Fleetwood Mac, Then Play On. Worked through both the Chris Bellman mastered 2013 vinyl and the new celebration version which is expanded to two lps and half speed mastered. I'd give the nod to the new one, bit more clarity and definition plus side four comes with two great singles, Oh Well parts one and two and The Green Manalishi. Nice physical product with flat, quiet pressings that even come in poly lined paper sleeves. Today's surprise find at my local TW hidden among the sub Crossley players on a back shelf. Some other interesting lps in stock included recent Buffalo Springfield and Faces reissues plus a 2xlp version of Aqualung I haven't seen before.

Jeff Buckley, Grace. This is the ORG double vinyl version at 45rpm and for me blows away the other versions I have. Almost worth the extra miles changing sides.

Damn it cooks! Sell it then (and no, I'm not interested). Fetches astronomical prices (refer Discogs/popsike $3-400). My copy has quite a few clicks on Lilac Wine and crackles on Hallelujah. Which is why it was only $10.

I have two other vinyl versions. The 2010 usa legacy edition seems to have a reasonable reputation. Never heard an original. You'll be pleased to hear that the ORG version is nice and quiet.😁

Ha! My only other vinyl version is the same US Legacy. I find that its quite good really, and very reasonably priced cf the outrageous 45 rpm ORG.

Ha! My only other vinyl version is the same US Legacy. I find that its quite good really, and very reasonably priced cf the outrageous 45 rpm ORG. Just found an old email from Amazon Canada for the ORG version. With freight it cost me CDN$63. Can't remember what the exchange rate was at the time. At that time Amazon Canada could be a great source for well priced music. I picked up one of the massive Paramount Records box sets for about NZ$10 freight.

Ah, the halcyon days of Amazon Canada, and Amazon UK. Fondly remembered and often longed for.

The last couple of nights in the bedroom system, Caravan, Canterbury Tales. Nice two cd overview and confirms that my interest in the band really doesn't extend much past their first three albums. After that with a personal change they lost some of their whimsy . So tonight it's full steam with record number three In the Land of Grey and Pink. 2001 reissue cd on Decca/Dream complete with five bonus tracks.

I saw Wishbone Ash in Christchurch, 14 March 1975. 45yrs ago... Bad weather meant the concert was changed from English Park (outdoors) into the Drill Hall (?) - very echoey I recall, but wow: stunning guitarists live (Andy Powell and Ted Turner). Here's an infamous review from a matey who attended the Welly concert: www.nzetc.victoria.ac.nz/tm/scholarly/tei-Salient38031975-t1-body-d33-d2.html Regardless, I was a fanboy convert to their melodic twin lead guitar attack after their albums 'Argus' and 'There's the Rub' (minor classics imo) From the storage box yesterday: I prefer their first 'Live Dates' with Powell/Turner, but this has Laurie Wisefield on guitar after Ted Turner left. Andy Powell remains an outstanding guitarist and is still touring/recording. Arguably the band was in decline by Live Dates II, however this is a nice album. Taster: [Powell - left channel & Wisefield - right channel]
"I see music as a lifetime affair." [Rory Gallagher]
"Free - I miss that band, but when I look back, we were very young" [Paul Rodgers]

Tidal download. Not heard this extraordinary piece of music before. Dynamic, alive, refreshing. Now where to find a vinyl copy at a reasonable price?

Currently cd 4, Pour Down Like Silver, in the new Richard and Linda Thompson 8cd box set, Hard Luck Stories. There have been a lot of reports of buyers having playback and ripping problems with this set and Universal are currently offering downloads to those affected while they sort replacement discs. Ripped all mine last night without problems and loaded onto the Fiio X5. Now just have to play back all discs in a player. There are some who've found that playback is fine on one device it's problematic on another. Never come across this before. The new remaster sounds good, a little clearer than my old Carthage cd. Night Comes In just brilliant.

Bit too grungy for my taste, though enjoyed albatross and world in harmony. CDs by this group and Peter Green take up a fair amount of shelf space here.l Edit. Also have a 4 cd set of fleetwood mac - 25 years of the chain. On the cd from the in the beginning set, Green manalishi is 12.5 mins long, while on while on this one it is only just over 4 mins!p

My entre into FM was the dustpin lp, I was heavily into blues music at that time. Loved their singles as well. I picked up most of them but they were later worn out by younger siblings when I was away. I think Green's guitar tone was what really drew me in and once he left the band I lost interest.

The 12 odd minute one I have is on a Sony remastered set of live sessions from 1968-70, featuring original line up.

Been issued many times unofficial/dubious and official. The full set runs to three cds and is available in a clam shell box www.discogs.com/Fleetwood-Mac-Boston/release/6909712also available in vinyl as three double lps. I only bothered with the first lp set, never considered volume 3, too many Jeremy Spencer rock n roll knock offs for my tastes. www.discogs.com/Fleetwood-Mac-Boston-Volume-One/release/5387889

It turned out there was in fact a vinyl 'print' of these 13 Toto Album 'remasters' in 2019. I suppose its another step along a 'spectrum' in that if I wasn't familiar with the music (which most of it I wasn't) I'd be reluctant to fork out for that. totoofficial.com/releases/all-in/A brighter bit of news for me was YouShop USA saying a cd I ordered has arrived. I once mistakenly lent 4 cd's to someone never to see them again. I might write to them. The thing is they might only be $4 each in a 2nd shop but usually to replace these things costs $$$.

Time to dust off an old audio chestnut... Jazz At The Pawnshop ! 30th Anniversary 3x SACD, DVD set from Proprius. Nice packaging but awful sound ! Someone thought it was a great idea to remix/remaster this classic and they largely failed. SACD disc 1 has been munged with the soundstage closed down and performers moved to the right of stage. Then they were covered with a duvet. Resulting in a dull and lifeless presentation.
The original vinyl remains the benchmark, even the original CD sounds better than this mess. But the second and third SACDs sound good ! A faulty disc 1 was ruled out as digital downloads of JATP in DSD64 and DSD128 have the same sonic attributes.
Has anyone got Winston Ma's FIM label versions on CD or SACD ?

Richard and Linda Thompson, Before Joe Could Pull the Trigger. This is a bootleg of the Gerry Rafferty produced and funded version of what eventually became Shoot Out the Lights. Basic story is that Richard disliked the Rafferty production calling it too slick and pulled the pin after several disagreements and re-recorded the record with Joe Boyd producing. The Rafferty version has floated around under a couple of different titles for years and a few tracks have even ended up on official releases including the new box set. However it appears that RT has veto powers over what comes out so a full release is unlikely. Besides the production changes there are also vocal swaps with Richard and Linda changing lead vocals on some tracks making for a slightly unsettling experience when you hear Linda singing on what is usually a Richard lead. I was pleasantly surprised to find a cdr in a forgotten pile today of this bootleg and even better that it is in wav format. Sound is good quality, 17 tracks including some demos and others that never made it to the official release. Would have been a nice extra disc for the Hard Luck Stories box.
