Hi cooks,
Your brain cells are still working fine, it was roundabout records on Papanui rd in ChCH. I got in there just before they closed and grabbed a swab of vinyl at ridiculous prices.

Herbie and Neil, Herbie - Blue Note 80, excellent Optimal pressing, superb sound (Kevin Gray all-analog remaster), Neil - good analog sound, decent pressing

Where did you get them from?
Not the recent Palmie record fair?

Got nothing from record fair but dirty fingers Records from Southbound, I had a small credit with them, bought some poly lined paper records sleeves that were too small !

They tell me that following the COVID shut down, they'll be offering a standard 10% discount to loyal members instead of the buy 10 x $20 discount card for a $20 credit.
My batch of polylined paper sleeves from them was fine, although I prefer their Nagaoka 102 type ones.

Herbie and Neil, Herbie - Blue Note 80, excellent Optimal pressing, superb sound (Kevin Gray all-analog remaster) This Blue note 80 is indeed very good sounding. Musically its nothing too adventurous by today's standards, but a fine example of a youthful Hancock and fairly safe hard bop.

Richard and Linda Thompson-Shoot Out the Lights Double cd reissue from 2010 on the Rhino Handmade label. Nice package, great music. Disc 2 is an 11 tk selection from their final tour together in 1982.
Nice quote from Linda "Shoot Out the Lights was the last album that Richard and I ever made. Had I known that, I'd have tried harder. I couldn't see the signs for singing them. I was very pregnant during recording. Nobody wanted me to go on tour. I'd just given birth, I'd been dumped, and I was washing my antidepressants down with Voka( quite a good combo, since you asked). I'm glad I went, even though I made Ray Milland's The Lost Weekend seem pretty pedestrian. We quit while we were ahead, and this record is mostly good."
Must have been difficult standing on stage next to the man who'd left you singing lyrics like this.

An op shop find I recently dug this out for a clean, one of the first records I ever bought.

Thanks to Trevor Reekie Worlds of Music RNZ: Listened in for the Buddy Guy interview (OK), but hearing Dawda Jobarteh, research revealed: happy, happy...nice rhythm, and electric kora album version: Gambian kora player, resident in Denmark.

I am ripping my CD collection on my InnuosZENmini Mk3, during which I found some discs that had received a lot of play time in the past, but haven’t been heard for several years. So, have taken the opportunity to listen again. Yes, they are great, and have been on repeat play lately. Joan Armatrading - into the blues. RL Burnside - wish I was in heaven sitting down. Both werer purchased when positively reviewed on the old Audioenz website. Even though I am only up to the Cs, I have come across several albums I have never listened to, despite them being in my collection for several years! Including ones by - Joan Armatrading, Tory Amos, David Bowie (2), Jimmy Barnes (2), plus the remastered mono cd set of the Beatles. Makes me wonder why I keep buying new music! Especially since when I get to the classical and jazz cd collectuins, I know I will find dozens of unplayed items!

There's an awful lot of head scratching and questions like, When did I buy that, Have I ever listened to it and why do I appear to have an almost complete catalogue of an artist I don't remember playing. Our local TW (a decade or so ago) used to have a lot of hard to find cds at bargain prices. Many happy hours on my knees hunting through the bins on the floor. However if I've never played them, are they really a bargain. Things maybe get worse when you realise there's 8 different versions of Ogdens Nutgone Flake in the collection, 7 of Aqualung and the same number for the Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East. At least I'm slightly more controlled this year with the count at 4 cds and 2 lps for the year with one pre order to come. Feeling virtuous .

Geez cooksferry, I feel indulgent on the odd occasion that I've got a second version, let alone an eighth!

Geez cooksferry , I feel indulgent on the odd occasion that I've got a second version, let alone an eighth! In my defense these double ups are across multiple formats, lp,cd,sacd, bluray audio etc and can including stereo or mono versions and different mastering. The Ogdens count was past 8 but I did get rid of a couple of items last year. Not a total lost cause.

Coming across 'many' long not-played albums. Like Sub, rediscovery when ripping to server.

You know I’ve never listened to aqualung or Allman brothers live. Quite the embarrassing confession.

Typical United pressing, my 2008 copy looks like a truck ran over it. Fortunately it doesn't sound as bad as it looks.

My Lost Highway pressing looks and sounds just fine. I wasn't aware of any potential issues with it, but now thanks to Michael I shall now wonder if I have to find an Analogue Productions copy to compare. 🙄
