Tonight bedroom system an old favourite, Tindersticks, Tindersticks II. Bit of a sucker for Stuart Staples baritone and the lush string backings. A bit of melancholy never goes amiss either.
Using my Audeze LCD3 for the first time in about a year. Great phone but a bit like having a pair of mini monitors on the pillow.

I bought a suspension headphone band for my LCD3. Seems to make them seem lighter, not so bulky.

This... don’t like anything they’ve done before or since - but this is a certifiable humdinger... Me no like! What?? I don’t even understand how that works... 😳

Also have her first album, which she has as "Pigeon Shit Colored Vinyl" She's dropping a new EP "Tour Beats Vol 1" in July intlanthem.bandcamp.com/album/tour-beats-vol-1 featuring more of her stunning cover art work too!

Given this album a couple more spins and must say it really is growing on me. A beautifully emotive and unique voice, not for everyone. I like it even more than Aromanticism. Highly recommended.

I bought a suspension headphone band for my LCD3. Seems to make them seem lighter, not so bulky. Was tempted to get one of those headbands a while back but chickened out. Did get the Audeze leather care kit out and give the ear pads a good going over last night. Tonight it's Gene Clark No Other demos and alt takes. My Oppo PM3s are my usual headphones in the bedroom system but the LCD3 really are in another league.

Bedroom system, switched the Audeze out for Oppo PM-1. Currently playing Tom Russell, Love and Fear. Russell is a fine storyteller and always has top line muscians with him. Shame that so little of his work is on lp.

+ 1. Tom Russell has created a terrific body of work over the last 30-odd years. My only criticism is that his albums can be a bit hit and miss. But when he is on form he is sublime viz with Joe Ely doing Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues on his 2017 album Folk Hotel.

Horrible day here so decamped to music room On a Tom Russell kick so it's what I find his best record, Blood and Candle Smoke. Sounding pretty good cranked a little via Yam amp and SF speakers.

Lately: The Segue, a four piece from Kraków in Poland. (Alumni from the Academy of Music in Katowice and the Kraków School of Jazz and Entertainment Music). Polish prog/jazz or jazz/prog... ...an outer orbit for me. Here's a closer orbit, near to planet Genesis:
"I see music as a lifetime affair." [Rory Gallagher]
"Free - I miss that band, but when I look back, we were very young" [Paul Rodgers]

Hi Cooksferry, big love for Tom Russell here. According to Discogs I have more than a dozen of his recordings here (somewhere). Agree with you that more should be on vinyl. My fave is Box of Visions .. "Blood Oranges" is a genius bit of story telling.

My fave is Box of Visions .. "Blood Oranges" is a genius bit of story telling. I only have one Russell album on lp but 18 cds. Should go back and revisit some of the early records. Played Wounded Heart of America yesterday which has some interesting cover versions.

Spent far too much time today hunting through the racks for a cd I was sure I had but apparently I don't. All wasn't lost as I took time to bring a few long neglected discs into the bedroom system. Robert Earl Keen , Picnic Terry Allen, human remains Buffy Sainte Marie , illuminations Gene Clark , White Light ( Intervention Records hybrid sacd)

I am a fan of both Terry Allen and Robert Earl Keen and haven't played either in some time. This afternoon I pulled out Lubbock (on everything), A Bigger Piece of Sky and Gringo Honeymoon. Great stuff

Terry Allen – Juarez Where it all began. That's a nicely done reissue. I resisted Lubbock as I already have two nice originals. Last night was Robert Earl Keen, Gravitational Forces. Not my favourite, think Picnic has better songs and a more appealing mix. I see several of my older Americana cds carry Radar Records stickers (Cassell mall chch,) From memory they carried some deep catalogue releases but not cheap. Did they go before the quake or did that finish them. Between Radar, Galaxy and Echo there was some good shopping.

Terry Allen, Salivation. Maybe his most commercial offering since Lubbock. Some nice steel guitar throughout by Lloyd Maines , father of Natalie Maines(Dixie Chicks)
Revisiting his catalogue prompted me to order the vinyl reissue of Pedal Steel which I have on cd. This comes with a comprehensive booklet and three cds of radio plays that showcased on NPR in the States. Pedal Steel was originally commissioned as a soundtrack for a dance company.

I have been streaming Pedal Steal + Four Corners a lot lately. Pedal Steal is terrific but I find Torso Hell (Four Corners) pretty grim listening. Radar was a great record store. It did not come back after the earthquakes but I got the feeling it was struggling even before that and the quakes provided the coup de grace. Echo had gone before the quakes. We are lucky to still have Penny Lane. It does not have anything like the catalogue that Radar had, but it is a different game now for retailers I guess.

Radar records went out of business after the second quake if memory serves. Bought a heap of vinyl and CD's off them over the years. They were one of the first to go completely out of vinyl and into CDs back at the time.Almost happened overnight or so it seemed at the time. Apparently the amount of vinyl returns were horrendous...
And one for all you youngsters out there: Full priced vinyl was $12.99 per LP at the time when CDs came in. Imports were a bit more expensive. Most record shops at the time had import bins where there were the more alternative choices available.

From what I've read Torso Hell could be heavy going. The price wasn't too bad in the current climate and if the lp and book are up to scratch then the cds will be a bonus. Re Radar Records, I can't remember them stocking lps on my visits but I was mainly cd then. I like the cd selection at Pennylane but find their lp pricing a little optimistic. Not much left in the SI now besides them plus Relics and JB in Dn. I seem to remember a record shop on the corner of Papanui Rd and Main North Rd, maybe close to 30 years ago. Or have the memory cells finally fried.

Jason Isbell. Reunions. This is fantastic. Leading candidate for album of the year. IMHO. Stand out track "Overseas." Great guitar work and sound. Ooh, new Isbell? Will have to look.

Been on an enjoyable listening blitz lately re: Bob Mould's back catalogue (when discovering many forgotten CDs of his, for ripping) "...the album rolls on, riffs cascade with molten urgency while melodies circle a psychedelic drain, signatures Mould has sported since the heyday of Hüsker Dü, but there's a vitality here due to the muscle and flexibility of his band. He's found a trio that executes the blasts of fury and the sullen dirges with equal fire and precision;..." Indeedy !!

I was sent My Dying Bride – The Angel And The Dark River, instead of Jason Isbell's first album. I'm not complaining!
