Rodney Crowell, Sex and Gasolene while I chase the dust and spiders from my unused music room. Visitor expected this pm so an effort is made. Visitor was very kindly hosted, as usual. merci beaucoup Cooks! It's always an education to visit his 'Aladdins Cave' music room. And, my first listen to his refined system incl. Hana ML, Yammy stereo amp, and the superb Sonus Fabers. Agree that his 'switch' of speakers playing across the room, rather than down the room, gives better balance and focus. esp. musically, but also layout-wise: nice p.s. good effort too: absolutely no sign of dust and spiders Was great to catch up Ian. Actually got some enthusiasm going re music listening. I think that was the first time any of the lps from that Free box set has been played which is a sad commentary on my habits of late. Found myself being impressed by the reproduction of Danny Thompson's double bass on the Richard Thompson tracks. The SF's do box quite well for a fairly small speaker. music for a catch up included bits from Free,The Vinyl Collection Richard Thompson , Mock Tudor double lp deluxe reissue Howe Gelb, Alegrías Procul Harum, Still There'll Be More: An Anthology 1967-2017 (disc1 of a 8 disc set) Probably my Fav Procul track thanks in part to Robin Trower's fuzzed out guitar.

Well theres a suprise !! Wouldnt have guessed you for a Siouxsie Sue listener colinf ? I’m full of twists and turns :-) Well I was just looking for a song by Devo (yes, a closet Devo fan) that I remember as a kid, The Super Thing and searching on Tidal came up with other songs with super and thing in it. Supernatural Thing came up by Siouxie and the Banshees. The mouse cursor came to hover over the play button for a moment. Will I or won’t I? My hand juddered slightly and the play button was hit before I knew it. The spare, stark and discordant guitar was instantly appealing. The incessant drumming and coarse vocals made it intriguing. Listening to other songs like Land’s End and Hong Kong Garden....great stuff, count me in as a fan!

beggar me...one of the finest reggae bands WAS from Handsworth, Birmingham, UK Lights off, volume up... Great song, great band. Moves some air! I lived in Stafford England from 1987 to 1998, and its 22 miles to Brummicham, as the Rasta crow flies. 20 for sober crows. I went to Wolverhapton Uni for a bit (hopeless at computer programming), and much later had a hifi shop in Aldridge near Sutton Coldfield, a posh suburb or Birmingham. In the late 80's I kind of dated a Late night DJ on a pirate (reggae only) radio station. There is quite the reggae scene there, and it was quite the time!

'... as the Rasta crow flies. 20 for sober crows." ...yahaha Was an energetic reggae scene in LHR, but not as vibrant as in your neck of the woods int' them days. I missed seeing Steel Pulse live. I did go to reggae concert in South London, with approx. 4 bands. Of which one was Aswad. The feature of that show was the very loud subterranean bass and dub effects. I did buy an Aswad album, but it was sterile compared to their live sound. Another feature was the Rasta 'haze' in the auditorium. Was something to experience; only over-trumped (and never beaten ime) by the 'haze' at the Grateful Dead concert, March '81 at the Rainbow Theatre. Had to be loads of punters flying, as your rasta crows, those nights... I bid you safe landings...

Olof Arnalds – Innundir Skinni Stumbled across this Icelandic singer/songwriter when googling the brilliant Olafur Arnalds (also Icelandic). A very unique voice. pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14788-innundir-skinni/"Like Joanna Newsom's Have One on Me, it is a rich and musically complex experience that evaporates into the ether if you let it. It is impossible not be charmed by Arnalds' music, but loving it takes focus."

Whats new everyone? Looking for some new toons from old bands or new bands with good toons. Most of what I listen to would probably go down like a lead balloon round here but try the new Emily Wells album ‘In The Dark Moving’ and once that’s had a chance to knock yer socks off, go back and look at her earlier work like Mama and Promise which was of a far higher caliber imho... a few live sets on YT to blow your mind too as she plays every instrument and creates loops, beats etc in real time. A stunning talent. Another new one is International Teachers Of POP which is pretty much what it says it is. And if you like that, Try Peaking Lights. And if you’re feeling risqué - Try anything by Taiwan Housing Project. I’m listening to Veblen Death Mask as I type this...

Olof Arnalds – Innundir Skinni Stumbled across this Icelandic singer/songwriter when googling the brilliant Olafur Arnalds (also Icelandic). A very unique voice. Here's a nice early video of her, playing a 'charango' I think. Folksy, focussed, melodic, v good.

on rotation recently: as the mateys from All Music say: "...a spectral allure that is wraithlike. You can never quite get a grasp on the music, you can only feel its presence on the back of your neck. Sounds come echoing from deep places before disappearing, and words are whispered as if from a different dimension, a different existence. Perhaps springing from beyond the grave."
Dronerock? all part of a balanced diet

First solo session in my music room since late January. Listened to The Third Mind, self titled. Been enjoying this on cd and decided to grab a vinyl copy with the bonus cuts while it's still available. My copy from Southbound, first and only lp purchase so far this year and both records dead flat with no background noise. Lovely surprise as i've not had the best of luck with items on Yep Rock in the past. Since Dave Alvin features on The Third Mind I followed that record with the fairly recent two lp reissue of Out in California. My system actually sounded fairly good and a reminder that I should use it more often. Used the Yamaha AS1100 amp which is good, but not up to my Melody SP9.

Found this
Ripley Johnson plays everything apart from the drums.
It bought a grin to my face and I started dancing, this is just plain fun!

Been listening to this all morning. Sounds nothing like the name suggests. Discordant beats, lush strings overlayed with old-timey vocals... very cool indeed.
