Have the unopened double vinyl sitting at home for a couple of weeks. One of my favourite albums - remastered.
I am a non-recovering audioholic, and Ivor is my higher power.

Have been hearing good things about the latest Fleet Foxes ? I got their first one but was generally put off by the recording, the 2nd I didn't bother with, so how is the 3rd one ?

Have been a great fan of Dr John aka Mac Rebennack for many years. First heard of him via a review of one of his CDs in the old hard print AudioEnz. Saw him live at the Tauranga Jazz Festival a few years back. Just been listening to a 2004 issue cd, on EMI/Parlophone label, 7243 5 78603 2 1, titled. "N'Awlinz, Dis Dat or D'Udda". Featuring some guest artists - BB King, Willie Nelson, Randy Newman, Mavis Staples and others. Fantastic performances - a totally re-arranged When the Saints go Marching In a stand out, but all tracks fine foot tapping music, but also intelligent words that keep you focussed. secure image upload

Some recently cleaned (by US cleaner) 2nd hand LPs -
Top Hat, (songs made famous by Fred Astaire) featuring 3 maestro - Menuhin, Grappelli arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle, EMI label EMC 298 but nz pressing 1981. Just sublime music.
Linda Ronstadt Greatest Hits Vol 2, Asylum 5E-516, 1980, doesn't say where pressed. Despite lovely silent surface, bar a couple of minor clicks, record a bit disappointing, recording sounds compressed.
Charlie Byrd, Blue Byrd, Concord Jazz 1979, but pressed by Festival NZ. Excellent jazz performance. Pinpoint separation of instruments and great sound staging.
Grappelli, Just One of Those Things, EMI 1984 EMC 221, Australian pressing. Another perfect performance all round.

if your ronstadt vol2 has printed by image printing on the back it will be a kiwi pressing. it doesn't sound too bad but a good us will be better. edit - found some pix, left - nz, right - us

Yes, it is the nz pressing - doesn't say that explicitly, but on back at bottom left in printing almost indistinguishable from the blue background (had to use a magnifying glass to read it) says marketed by WEA Auckland nz. Will keep an eye out for us pressing. Will have another listen when able to turn volume up - may make a difference. Edit 22/7: have to change my mind - played again just now at higher volume than yesterday, and the recording came to life. Very good performance, so much so played the whole album. As to where pressed, apart from the cover saying who marketed by, it is a bit of a guess, especially since the label on my copy is different again from the images posted by MichaelW.

The mystery of where my copy of Ronstadt, Best Of Vol 2, deepens - see previous post. This album has a card inner sleeve - see pics. It does belong to the album as the numbers match up, but on the back of the inner sleeve it says "printed in USA" image hosting com

hi , my nz inner has the same "printed in usa" - common amongst nz pressings where the printers reprinted overseas art verbatim. although your copy has a solid blue label cf. to my house of warner label, looking at the groove spacing, it is similar to my nz. the us runs much closer to the label.

Listening to another US cleaned 2nd hand album - "Judith", Judy Collins, 1975 Electra 7E-1032, either nz or Aus presssing, marketed by WEA Auckland. Almost perfectly silent surface, infrequent clicks did not intrude. Beautiful singing, Send In The Clowns a stand out track. For an old record this sounds amazing!

got that too ! a lovely album. interesting to contrast her version of the moon is a harsh mistress with linda ronstadts Now I am going to have to find Linda's 1984 album Get Closer with that track! Do have several more albums of each artist in the main collection, so will have a look when I am able. Amazing how many artists have performed that song!

On Saturday, Silver Lake, the latest arrival in the Vic Chesnutt vinyl reissue series. As with all the previous releases, nice flat, quiet vinyl and the music is pretty fine as well. Glad I decided to spring for this reissue series even though I had a few original copies.
Led Zeppelin, first lp, Classic Records reissue from around 2000. Wish I'd managed a couple more from the series but getting quite pricey now.

With the grim news of people dying inside a truck-trailer in Texas today, I'm reminded of Texan songwiter Guy Clark's telling of this people-smuggling scene - 'El Coyote'. From his last album 'My Favorite Picture of You' (2013). Real-life story-telling is what I like about these guys.

Laura Nyro is great isn't she ? I've a few of hers that I've not played in a while. So do you need a Mono laser to play a Mono CD LOL ?

Nyro isn't much on anyone's play lists these days but her first albums certainly provided a stack of memorable songs for others. I've managed to pick up all her early releases up to Gonna Take a Miracle(with Lebelle) on vinyl. From memory most are USA pressings. Audio Fidelity did a nice SACD release of Eli and the Thirteenth Confession last year.

I think I have 3 or 4 of her early ones. From memory some were re released with different titles which I find confusing.... Will have a look tonight, thanks for the prompt.
And yes, largely forgotten these days.

Her first album, More Than A New Discovery was released in "67 on Verve Folkways and they changed the title the following year to The First Songs. I think it is more familiar under the later title when it was reissued by Columbia a few years later. The Columbia version comes with a different cover as well. That's the one I have, dont think I've ever seen the Verve version.

On how it sounds without... We must shed these small minded perceptions man! The whakamana is the audio geeks friend, heightening senses while relaxing both body and mind. Great for a weekend reprieve from life's anxieties too. Ditch yer Prozac, roll a spleef and lay down some wax man!

This afternoons garage rock in the garage is Ty Segall...
Listening on the Bastard Bose, which can sound bafflingly good if you do a basic sub tuning with each album. An expeience sure to be improved with the imminent arrival of a usb dac from Colin F. Bloody awesome!
