Initial impressions only, but I'm impressed with the overall quality of this World Circuit 2019 release, a 'remaster for vinyl' of the Omara Portuondo (Buena Vista Social Club presents) album from 2000. Sound quality of the EU-manufactured vinyl is excellent, the mastering clean & natural, with vocal especially clear & 'present', bandwidth pretty good (I was surprised by the double bass once or twice), dynamics easy & open. (Instrumentation perhaps overall a touch 'dialled back', respectfully maybe, behind the voice.) No gatefold cover or download code, but a nicely produced, LP-sized, lyric booklet is included (with English translations). The music of course, is the splendid, unique variety of rhythms & elegant styles of Cuban music. I'll be looking for a vinyl of her Flor de Amor later album, if it exists. I have both on CD, but this vinyl release is a significant improvement in sound quality. I don't think that I've ever had a bad sounding World Circuit release.

Everything is impressive & natural, a 10/10 disc in my books.

Was listening to this CD (Sire Records 1989). On the back insert, in very small print, I spotted this previously un-noticed statement: "The music on this Compact Digital Disc was originally recorded on analog equipment. We have attempted to preserve as closely as possible the sound of the original recording. Because of its high resolution, however, the compact disc can reveal limitations of the source tape."...what? ...really? Recording was co-produced by Lou and Fred Maher, mastered by Bob Ludwig of Master Disk.
"I see music as a lifetime affair." [Rory Gallagher]
"Free - I miss that band, but when I look back, we were very young" [Paul Rodgers]

Citroen - I seem to recall that my Oz pressing of New York is very satisfactory sounding. But let me refresh my memory with a re-listen.... A great album, exc sound, as I recall.

Playing now and yes, it is quite good Owen Y. Better than I remember. It just isn't as good as my recent Luke Hurley LP which has such a very realistic, clear and solid sound. Among the best I've heard.

I've not been a big fan or collector of RCA LSC or the various re-issues of same. However, somehow (I don't recall how) I acquired this Classic Records re-issue of the Reiner/CSO Scheherezade, originally a 1960 recording. This one, a Bernie Grundman-mastered, single-LP, 200g version (based on the sticker), dates from ~2008(?). Sound quality - is impressively clean, open & natural, with wide bandwidth, from weighty/dynamic bass to sweet treble tone. If I can nitpick, I'd just say that the RCA 'sound' is a bit 'big' & ‘close’, lacking a more 'usual' concert hall ‘perspective’ - ie. way too 'front row' for me.

agreed. grundman's remasters have been criticized for being too "hi-fi" and solid state sounding. i bought an original "baker's dozen" of the first 13 re-issues back in 96/97. imho not as good as clean originals but much more affordable and better than the cheskys.
Classic Records is now in the hands of Chad Kassem and Acoustic Sounds
