I'm offering this excellent but relatively unknown MC cartridge for sale on this forum only. It appears to only have been available in Japan and parts of Europe. As detailed in my post it unfortunately is not compatible with my system but I am not interested in throwing it to the masses on Trade Me. It has a very low output of only 0.2mV so needs a preamp that provides at least 65-70 dB of gain, or an SUT of 1:20 to perform at it's best. I have absolutely no idea of its value so am open to offers. I will provide free postage anywhere in NZ and am happy with a 'try before you buy' arrangement, and will even provide a return prepaid courier pack if you decide it is not to your liking. It deserves to be on a turntable rather than spend the rest of its life as a very attractive paperweight.

Traditionally, the Japanese used 26-30dB SUTs with their low-med output MC cartridges - ie 1:20 - 1:32. Ortofon did same. That's what I'd recommend for this. Beautiful packaging.

hi johnny, usual cart is a dynavector dv20x2 low ouput. a very good cart but i never really felt any love for it. wish i had my shelter back

michaelw Stop faffing around with other carts like this one and get a 901, or one of the x000 series carts if you miss the 501!

i'm on to you, you just want the excel for yourself  i plead poverty  you seen the prices of new shelters ? over the years the 501 has gone from $800us to $1295 almost as bad as dynavectors, a new 20x2l is now $1549 ! sidebar; i found a note online that excel built the shinon cartridges from the 80s/90s
