Hi all, anyone else been following listings on Trademe by Tjiens aka Hgnit of Stereotype? Seems he is gradually selling off items from his private collection. I've been casually on the lookout for a new amp, and have twice been under bidder on two of his items. Missed out on a seriously rare Yamaha receiver some time ago, and just recently a Technics SU vx800.
the Yamaha would have been an ideal partner for my Yamaha YP-D9 TT - a seriously audiophile TT, a fully manual version of the YP-D8 with an improved arm (made by Micro Seiki).
He has just listed a Tag McLaren 60i integrated amp, and while it "looks" ok, I can't find much info about it on the web. Only reviews I have found are by owners and while mostly positive there are enough negative remarks to raise concerns.
I auditioned the original Audiolab 8000a way back when, and found it lacking in dynamics, bit boring really, so concerned the Tag McLaren maybe a clone.
anyone here had experience of using the 60i?
i am looking for something that will bring back the excitement, dynamics, rhythm and sheer prat of my old Plinius Jarrah, which I foolishly sold a while ago. I was using it with a Perreaux 200iP.
currently using a Linn Pretek/Powertek combo, which is ok - especially the preamp which is let down a bit by the power amp. Have also used my housemates Denon PMA 1055R, which frankly is not outclassed by the Linn combo, except it only has a MM phono input.
Appreciate any advice you can offer re the Tag McLaren. Am also interested in a Plinius 2100i currently on TM, which apparently is identical to the 8100, and is said to be a music lovers delight?
