I'm sure he won't be the only musician to succumb - MICHAEL FREMER remembers - ADAM SCHLESINGER, best known as founding member, guitarist & keyboardist of early 2000s US rock-pop band Fountains of Wayne. He was only 52 years old, a multiple Emmy-winner & nominee for Oscars & Grammys & Emmys... for songwriting & music scores. (Does this vid feature our own Rach(el)?)

Hal Willner, producer of some great themed compilation records. Especially great memories of his Disney tribute, Stay Awake. Purchased a cassette copy many years ago that the children and I constantly played in the car. Still have it and added the cd and vinyl versions. Tom Waits channeling the seven dwarfs.

Sorry to hear about John Prine, was actually due to see him shortly at the Byron Bay Bluesfest (now cancelled of course). Sat on the deck in the sunshine and knocked out a version of Sam Stone on the guitar in memorium.

in these covid times i'd be wary of getting near these window singers. germs can be expelled at up to 35m/s, with a range of up to 8m. the only saving grace is these germ clouds are less dense than the surrounding air so rise upwards.

DOWNBEAT magazine last week published a tribute to the musicians we have lost to the coronavirus pandemic - where COVID-19 was a factor in the recent demise of each of the following artists (in the jazz & blues field): - Ellis Marsalis, pianist & "patriarch of the famous New Orleans family". - Lee Konitz, alto saxophonist (as mentioned above). - Henry Grimes, bassist & violinist. - Andy González, bassist. - Bucky Pizzarelli, jazz guitarist and father of guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli. - Wallace Roney, trumpeter. - Manu Dibango, the Cameroonian saxophonist. . Marcelo Peralta, Argentine saxophonist. - Eddy Davis, Grammy-winning banjo player and bandleader. - Hal Willner, film and TV music producer. - Ahmed Ismail Hussein, Somalian oud player. - Freddy Rodriguez Sr., saxophonist (Ellis Marsalis in 2017.)
