Yeah, most links still end up around the $300 plus mark. Owen Y , what amount of Triton-X are you using per tank? Assuming its the 10% (50ml) diluted to 500ml? "One easy method is to just mix a teaspoon of 100% Triton with a teaspoon of distilled water and work it in slowly to dissolve. Gradually keep adding more teaspoons of distilled water and mixing until a total of 9 teaspoons have been added (roughly a 10% detergent stock). You want a final concentration of detergent around 0.1 to 0.2% so this 10% stock gets diluted 50 to 100-fold in the final working wash solution. I make up a 500mL bottle like this." 5ml teaspoon with 9x5ml=45ml. Total 50ml @10%. To get .1% is 5ml of the 10% Triton in 495ml. So for a 5L tank, you add 0.5ml of 10% Triton? What % is the 500ml bottle? 10% or is it made from the 10% stock, ie 1%, and so you add 5ml of the 500ml 1%?

I started with 0.1% (1:1000) dilution & that seems to work fine. But I am tending to go 0.2% now - for no particular reason, other than the fact that I still have plenty of it. The Triton X-100 is undiluted concentrate. My tank contains 4.5L, filled to the max. indicator mark. You can do the sums. Georges Giralt (in France) has recommended Polysorbate 20 as a more environmentally responsible detergent-surfactant, so I may try that out soon.

Hi chaps - have you had any success with ultrasonic cleaner tank sellers, either eBay or Aliexpress?

I am interested in this - sold my cleaner a while ago & starting to need it again. Any new leads. Also is your kit still available Owen? Cheers

Hi beeman - yes indeed. We've sent most to Oz - getting up to 50 of them. Also to Norway, Netherlands, France, Sweden, USA, Canada, UK, Estonia, Italy, Finland...and even locally Ebay sellers of the 6/6L ultrasonic tank model PS-30A seem to be hard to find now, for NZ buyers.

It's a no. They only bring in complete kits.

I've just assembled a cleaner using the AliExpress link above. The PS30A unit arrived in Te Awamutu a mere 6 days after ordering, NZ$303 incl GST and shipping. I have Owen's kit strapped onto it, and I just went and bought the entire gasmate rotisserie kit (NZ$78) from Bunnings Hamilton to get the motor. I figured there wouldn't be much saving by the time I got the Oz motor-only (AU$36) sent to a mate in Oz then posted over here, though that is something we could perhaps look at as a group buy? I'd take a spare.
For initial runs I've just used eco store fragrance free dishwash liquid (Triton will be ordered today) at 3ml per tank in filtered water, 25 minute cycle at 30 degrees, followed by a quick rinse in plain TA tap water to get rid of the dishwash suds then an air dry on the spindle. This actually seems pretty adequate. The cleaner is fairly loud, my better half is complaining.
I'm cleaning bargain bin or inherited vinyl I don't care too much about for the moment. I'm very impressed by a previously hand cleaned but near unlistenable (and I have low standards) copy of Linda Ronstadt's Simple Dreams cleaning up to VG+, sounding full and rich with a lovely soundstage. It will be interesting to see if I get any improvement from some of my better cared for stuff (will post back).
Thanks Owen - I'll post some photos soon.

Gave me a hell of a fright when I turned it on. Even though I've seen and heard the vids, the initial high pitched squeal frightened the bejesus out of me! As I intend to build one from locally sourced tank, a pair of Jaycar sale ultrasonic drivers already bought, thinking a driver source for that pair plus an all in one driver board & two transducers, so 4 in total. Where would you put them, I thought, and looked up stuff on that too.
But I'm puzzled;- the transducers are supposedly ultrasonic, so what is generating the squeal? Subharmonics of ultrasonics? Magnetostriction from transformers? ?
I haven't watched videos or experienced one yet. It's just an initial squeal? What's the steady state operating noise like?

The cleaner is fairly loud, my better half is complaining. Ia there also an initial squeal? What's the steady state operating noise like? Loud in what way, frequencies? How could these noises be diminished?
Maybe I'd better search out some YouTube videos;- any pointers, anyone?

Here's a video I shot back in 2017, when we were prototyping our Ultrasonic Record Cleaning 'kit' attachment: Even though the US transducers vibrate at ~40kHz, there will be lower harmonics, which excite the tank chassis .

For reference, I bought two of these some time ago, not sure if still available, maybe not. www.jaycar.co.nz/50w-40khz-ultrasonic-transducer/p/AU5556I see also these, but again perhaps now not available. www.jaycar.co.nz/35w-42khz-ultrasonic-transducer/p/AU5554As it turned out, the jaycar ones had only a very few (2-3) threads exposed on the business end that might allow a mounting bolt. Obviously not intended to receive one, just the tapped leftover from the top bolt thread right through I think. Might have to be epoxied on, &or maybe a very shallow mounting bolt can be tacked on, welded, to the SS Bain Marie type tank. (I had a suitable similar size basin/tank lined up locally on TM, will have to find again. $25 or so?) It seems the all-in-one transducer pair and driver board sales come with mounting bolt stubs to be welded on to a desired spot. Interesting, if not immediately easy! ;=}) So I would have to take to a stainless steel welder to spot them on where required. Use epoxy as well, perhaps. But after that I'll be happy to construct a wood enclosure for the whole lot, a pump, filter, etc. Such is the cheap dream! ;=})

Hi markr - sorry about delay: The kits are currently NZ$159 + $10 postage (rural delivery will need confirming) (We have been able to continue reducing costs as batch qtys for laser-cuts & pars increase with more orders.) The kit consists of (as per pic below): - A 3-pc, 2mm Stainless Steel laser-cut frame, which fits the top of the ultrasonic cleaner tank. - Assembly is easy, just 4 screws (& washers). - A record drive-shaft (M6 Stainless steel) with 3 soft plastic record spacers, 2 clamp knobs, a small ball bearing. (Note: A Q that we have been asked - the fluid does not run onto the record labels, as the surfactant/detergent mix 'films' thinly across the vinyl & does not drip or 'run'.) We have sold many of these kits - to NZ, Australia, USA, Canada, England, France, Italy, Norway, Estonia, Sweden, Finland, Holland.... You will need to purchase separately: 6/6.5L Ultrasonic Cleaner tank Model PS30A. eg: www.ebay.com/itm/US-Stainless-Steel-Liter-Industry-Heated-Ultrasonic-Cleaner-Heater-Timer-Homeuse/324130410087?epid=14028332011&hash=item4b77ad8e67:g:OBYAAOSwG8Nejpg9www.ebay.com/itm/1-30L-Ultrasonic-Cleaner-With-Heater-Timer-For-Parts-Glasses-Jewelry-Ultrasound/383774807635?hash=item595ac2d653:g:hs4AAOSwEkxfhesDRotisserie motor, this type: www.kogan.com/au/buy/odr-gasmate-240v-rotisserie-motor-ba1003/?utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=myshopping (I bought mine from Kogan.au) www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/odr-gasmate-240v-rotisserie-motor-ba1003/?utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=dseaumyshoppingPlease ask any Qs.
