Slight sense of achievement , just finished the 2nd of my large cd racks. Now showing 2597 items. Think I've added close to 1200 cds in a month which isn't too bad. Still a small set of four shelves to do then it's onto another large unit that has smaller box sets and the like stacked three deep but hopefully that will go through fairly quickly. Then it's a revisit to the sacd section to check I did actually get everything there and a final gallop through the remaining lps. I have a feeling a large dram or three will celebrate the final item.

I have been using Discogs for some time as well and started creating a list. I think it’s a great way to understand which lp version you’ve got + I’m using it for identification when buying something new. Problem is that for classical records a lot of the versions are not listed so I also started to add to the database but that’s a lengthy process.

Thanks to two days of rain and wind I've (almost) finished the cd/sacd section. Just rechecking through the sacd/hybrid discs and picked up a few that I'd missed. Total stands at 2864 so that's now about 1700 added in the last couple of months. Now it's back to the remaining lps and recheck the larger box sets which I think I have pretty much done already but things have switched around since I started this process a couple of years agon. Did my small collection ( about 30) of 45s yesterday and surprised how easily that went. There's the odd surprise thrown up including this one which I paid about NZ$40 on release. www.discogs.com/Jeff-Beck-Truth/release/11164929Is it that much better than the previous reissue from a few years earlier...not in dollar terms but the mastering brings out the midrange to better effect. However the early cd does include one of Rod Stewart's best vocals as a bonus tk

Really on the home straight with maybe a couple of hundred lps at the most left to check. About half way through the R section and now showing 3029 items in the collection taking 122 pages. I did run into a problem with the Discogs app which didn't seem to be picking up my new additions for a few weeks and was throwing up random search results at times. I deleted and reinstalled the app and all seems good. Also seems to help updating if I open the app next to the computer when I have Discogs open on that. This time next week I'll be finished after adding over 2000 items in a bit over couple of months. Just shows what long winter days and boredom can achieve.

Ok, time to give myself a little pat on the back. Decided to pull finger today and it's finished, all lps, 45s, box sets, cds, sacds, bluray etc etc now on Discogs. I'm certain there are a couple still hiding out some where but as far as I'm concerned it's done. Total is 3151 items 127 pages Max price NZ $155,074 Min NZ$62,500. Can't say it's been fun exactly but it has reminded me of long forgotten records. Big question now is how much do I hold onto, especially the vinyl. Pondering long and hard what to keep with both software and hifi equipment. I had thought I'd spend a lot of time with my music once retired but 5 sessions in 8 months in the music room isn't a great return.

It is also a good way to navigate your collection: it's not easy browsing through vinyl and you can easily browse/search with the mobile app. It's also good to identify which pressing you have in-case you put it up for sale. I also use it to keep some basic notes. I don't have the courage to do the CDs though so I use it for vinyl only.
