We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

And all this time I've been calling him Solti, not the correct Sholti!

Earthling, Eddie Vedder Not that interested in Pearl Jam, but like what Eddie does solo. Into The Wild is a long time favourite.

"I keep losing my glasses" Heard this on Border Radio last Sunday, so apt, entranced, working outside just got back inside to clearly hear the last four tracks announced, missed it and rang them up to find out. It was this:- a general tale of woes and irritations, but that was the chorus refrain. (as explained in this NPR interview.) I misplace a pair often, sometimes daily more than once! Usually found again... Anybody who loses their glasses might appreciate... ;=})

Donald Byrd - Slow Drag I'm not picking up every Tone Poet release, even though they are excellent value for money (except for the guitar, or organ ones ). And I wish I could afford to. This one is especially good.

Music For Double Bass is a 1981 WRC release of the EMI HMV label, and sounds superb.
Still working my way through a few hundred classical lps I bought as a bulk lot.

Mozart Violin Concertos K. 216 and 218, Iona Brown, Academy of St.Martin-In-The-Fields. 1980 Argo (division of DECCA).
Beautiful sounding recording originally bought from Marbecks, Queen St, Auckland.
One of the best $1 I've spent!

Does it sound thin in the bass, or has it been recorded using RIAA curve?

I thought the RIAA curve was only standardized mid 50's, and RCA Victor used their own albeit very similar curve.
Ah, that link says they were identical but I'm sure I've read elsewhere that they weren't!

This is a '60s re-issue of a re-recording of the Victory At Sea music.
The original was mono from 1953.

Going around in circles with the bedroom collection which I really should change for some new blood.
Currently, Daniel Lanois, Acadie Goldtop cd edition. My vinyl copy departed some time ago.
Dragged the Audeze LCD3s out of retirement. Very different from the Grados. Might be time to dust the cobwebs from the Oppo PM1 as well.

Please, Mr Jackson. Original 1959 Prestige pressing from RG. www.discogs.com/release/3314915-Willis-Jackson-Quintet-Please-Mr-JacksonProbably in Goldmine 'good' condition but I like the extra atmosphere! In any case, I'm reasonably sure RG do all their appraisals on stereo carts and when I get these home, they're always quieter on my mono setup. Rudy van Gelder's work laughs in the face of 60-years-plus use; this thing is so damn present and loud! The sax, double-bass and Jack McDuff's organ all sound stupendous. He has to be in the top one of sound engineers!
